Dick Durbin to hold hearing on ‘stand your ground’ laws

The Senate’s No. 2 Democrat will hold a hearing on “stand your ground” laws this Fall.

Dick Durbin of Illinois announced on Friday that his Senate Judiciary subcommittee will hear testimony on state laws that give citizens the right of lethal force to defend themselves in situations where they feel their life is threatened, measures which are on the books in some form in dozens of states.

Durbin’s hearing will probe the roles of the NRA and the American Legislative Exchange Council — which helps draft conservative legislation in statehouses — in the crafting of the “stand your ground” laws, his office said. Durbin also plans to examine the legal definition of self defense, how the laws have affected shooting confrontations and how the laws interact with racial profiling by law enforcement.

A witness list or further details will be released in August in advance of the September hearing, an aide said.

The announcements comes six days after George Zimmerman was acquitted in the killing of Trayvon Martin, a case that sparked national scrutiny of “stand your ground” laws.

SYG is inconvenient for Durbins’s constituents. And since he has armed bodyguards he can sit on his dead ass and let them take the heat for protecting him.

What the HELL is wrong about ‘Stand Your Ground” Laws?????? I don’t get it.

We have seen in many lib columns and articles recently a completely inaccurate perception of what the SYG laws actually say and do. According to the liberals, SYG laws allow a person to shoot and kill someone just because they find them to be "suspicious". This is the entire underpinning of the Martin/Zimmerman case to many of these people.

Never mind that SYG laws say no such thing, or that SYG had nothing to do with this case.

Some libs believe that Zimmerman was legally allowed to shoot Martin after finding him to be suspicious (due to being black), and that's it.

I’m sure Durbin will say that Zimmerman is the worst person since Heinrich Himmler.

Another BS hearing, so Durbin and the Democrats can look like they’re doing something.

Sen. Durbin can run in 2014. The best Republican, in that race, is Chad Koppie, and I’m his campaign manager. Chad is pro-gun rights, pro-life, anti-illegal alien, pro-tax cuts, and pro-spending cuts. He’s a member of the Kane Co. Regional Board of Schools, and he was a township trustee and school board member. In the 1998 governor primary, Chad was the only conservative candidate. Please read his site, www.chadkoppieforillinois.com. We need a lot more volunteers, donations, and interviews.

This is just an excuse to investigate the NRA and
any other conservative organizations.

Durbin should be driven out of office with horse
whips.

Now that Dick Turban has solved the economy, he’ll go on with his campaign to destroy states rights.

Stand Your Ground was NOT INVOKED IN THE ZIMMERMAN TRIAL!!!

Why the HELL do we continue to allow these idiot lefttards to DEFINE THE TERMS when they're wrong?!?

They cannot define MARRIAGE, they cannot define WEALTHY, and the cannot define the 2ND AMENDMENT!!

So, bottom line, what’s the difference between “stand your ground” and “self defense”? They look a lot alike to me.

President Traythug wants you to have to run away rather than defend yourself if you get attacked on the street by a punk who looks like he could be the President’s son. He also thinks that if you are a creepy cracka then you are not allowed to get out of your car or walk down the street unless you have the Traythug’s permission.

Stand Your Ground protects your Self Defense rights.

If you are attacked, fight back, win, and claim Self Defense . . . If the Authorities find Self Defense was justified, the attacker and his/her heirs (family) cannot sue you in Civil Court for damages and losses incurred.

Well, Durbin is liberal, and the liberal view is that stand your ground laws are a reason for this case happening. We live in a liberal world.

I also think that he is truly representing his ‘natural constituency’ ie. those who would prey on others.
