I’ll be happy when Tom Woods’ girls are old enough to attend WYD- they’ll be able to hijack these shenanigans if anyone is.
With all of the recent awareness of the “Agenda 21” stuff, we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that there are often legitimate reasons to worry about “sustainable development”. For example, out west, where fresh water resources are already strained, unrestricted development without regard to securing new water rights can be a big issue. Or, when municipalities cave to developers’ money and let them overbuild during boom cycles, there will be a price to pay for the whole community when the bust cycle comes around.
However, the left has hijacked the whole issue, like they did with naturalism and environmentalism, so that conservatives view anything having to do with restricting development with suspicion. It’s not unwarranted suspicion, but I fear we’ll let them completely hijack this issue, like those others, and turn it into a permanent weapon of the left, if we don’t do anything to address legitimate parts of the issue, while denouncing the left’s hidden agenda at the same time.
