We are writing to clearly state the ACLUs position on whether or not the Department of Justice (DOJ) should consider bring ing federal civil rights or hate crimes charges as a result of the state court acquittal in the George Zimmerman case. Even though the Supreme Court permits a federal prosecution following a state prosecutio n, the ACLU believes the Double Jeopardy Clause of the Constitution protects someone from being prosecuted in another court for charges arising from the same transaction. A jury found Zimmerman not guilty, and that should be the end of the criminal case.

Not only is that a sorry letter it is written terribly.
The most focused thing taught in law screwl must be how to stretch one point into as many obscure paragraphs as possible thereby making the point even more obscure.
I wonder if the A.C.L.U.'s ever had a I.R.S. audit.
I downloaded the PDF and read the entire thing.
One paragraph deals with the George Zimmerman case about ‘double-jeopardy’. I was flabbergasted when the feds went after the Rodney King officers for the same offense. That is NOT what the Constitution says.
Otherwise, the letter is poorly worded and is pretty lame.
However, there are still actions the federal government can take to help communities like Sanford, Florida to ensure tragedies similar to Trayvon Martins untimely death do not happen again, including preventing widespread racial profiling. Although the George Zimmerman case did not involve a law enforcement officer, many other shootings of unarmed Black men around the country have.
IOW, this had nothing to do with the relationship of pirates to the Dow Jones industry, but we should be concentration on the pirates problem...
“We believe that Oranges grow on trees and are sometimes bitter, therefore it is in the best interest of the people that Apples be permanently removed from the shelves.”
By doing so, Holder is helping Obama set race relations back at least 50 years.
It is a darn shame these people are hurting America like this. MLK must be spinning in his grave as they destroy his vision of a colorblind America where people are judged by their character.
As I recall, this had nothing to do with racial profiling. The police were responding to a call and the man was shot accidentally while trying to use a stun gun to subdue him.
It’s the thought that counts ;-)
Do they actually believe that Eric Holder actually cares about the Constitution?
Is this another unlabeled satire posting?
Sounds like they let bob barr write a letter as partial payback for his stabbing Conservatives in the back and joining this communist front. I guess a commie can be right on very rare occasions.
this is turf war.
aclu is fighting jackson and sharpton as official representative of oppressed minorities.
competition will not be tollerated.
I am confused by the second paragraph. Would it have been better for Amadou Ahmed Diallo to be shot 41 tiimes by black NYPD officers?
Sean Bell was shot 50 times by NYPD officers (of unknown race) . Would it have been better for him to be killed by one bullet rather than 50?
Would it have been less objectionable for him to be shot if Oscar Grant had been white or asian?
I think they found 2 nuts. If you look at the second paragraph, all the cities listed are majority Democrat.
How were the Goldmans able to sue OJ Simpson in civil court?
