In a letter from the ACLU to Attorney General Eric Holder:
Even though the Supreme Court permits a federal prosecution following a state prosecution, the ACLU believes the Double Jeopardy Clause of the Constitution protects someone from being prosecuted in another court for charges arising from the same transaction. A jury found Zimmerman not guilty, and that should be the end of the criminal case.

My world is coming undone. The ACLU agrees with me three times in the last three weeks and Jimmuh Carter agreed with me twice in one week.
I can only take so much!
Rights in criminal cases
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime,
unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury,
except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia,
when in actual service in time of War or public danger;
nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb,
nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself,
nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;
nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
I am unable to comprehend your post. Somebody help.
...did you mean does NOT get another try?
Interesting - that correlates with the percentage of our population who identify as hard core leftists or minority ideologues (or both).
Is the last name name not spelled Cahttuh ??
Oooooppps! I meant the Feds do NOT get another try!!!
I really can’t fake a southern accent when writing as well as Hillary Clintoon can fake a black accent when pandering to adoring crowds of the same.
Got to work on it.
ACLU believes the Double Jeopardy Clause of the Constitution protects someone from being prosecuted in another court for charges arising from the same transaction. A jury found Zimmerman not guilty, and that should be the end of the criminal case.
They got that right!
However, in the next paragraph, they state:
Although the George Zimmerman case did not involve a law enforcement officer, many other shootings of unarmed Black men around the country have.
and then they proceed to list a few examples, including Oscar Grant.
So, ACLU, does the Double Jeopardy Clause contain an exception for crimes committed by cops on duty?
It probably would have made more sense if I included “NOT” in the last sentence, as in the Feds do NOT get another try...
Whew. You almost caused me to give up drinking.
Actually Holder and Obama don’t care if Zimmerman
is prosecuted again, they know that what ever reason
is given, their voters will know it’s because of
Holder has no intention of bringing a civil rights case. The administration is just trying to fan the flames as a distraction.
Watch what the other hand is doing.
Excellent point. Holder will tap-dance the Zimmerman issue just long enough for the corrupt media to redirect the attention of low-information citizens to another government-manufactured soap opera.
“Is the last name name not spelled Cahttuh ??”
Correct spelling is “Catarrh*”
*ca·tarrh [kuh-tahr] Show IPA
Pathology . inflammation of a mucous membrane, especially of the respiratory tract, accompanied by excessive secretions.
Only one "T" in Cahtuh, though.
(alternately; Cahta, Cahtah)
For once, I agree with the ACLU.
don’t you mean twice, they are protesting nsa spying also.
I hear ya.
And that lets you know that this administration has officially bolted over the far left line.
I will never donate a single dollar to the ACLU again.
