Voters shifting right force House GOP to keep pace
Associated Press ^ | Jul 22, 2013 3:53 AM EDT | Charles Babington

House Republicans feel growing pressure to steer firmly right on key issues, thanks to changes in primary-election politics that are complicating Congress’ ability to solve big problems.

Independent research supports the belief by these lawmakers that they owe their jobs to increasingly conservative activists, and that it’s safer than ever to veer right on many subjects rather than seek compromise with Democrats.

On the flip side, House Democrats face a more liberal-leaning electorate in their own primary elections. But the trend is less dramatic for Democrats, whose supporters are more open to compromise to help government work, polls show. And Republican control of the House makes the GOP dynamic more consequential. …

In interviews, House Republicans often cite worries about a possible challenge from the right in their next primary. Many of them represent districts so strongly Republican that it’s all but impossible for the party’s nominee to lose a general election to a Democrat. Also, these lawmakers say, it’s highly unlikely that a moderate Republican can wrest the party’s nomination from a conservative incumbent. …

Most of the pandering language by the left and GOPe is not so much pandering as attempts to neuter the American people and the conservatives. IT is intimidation, and this game of demoralization of the snake in the middle of the garden, looking for faults and what not.

From Obama to Hillary’s presidency, this is what this crap is designed for. THen the choice rape by the feminist/globalist is all the much easier. Whether it is Bush calling us Vigilantes or Islam is peace, or Hillary talking about evil white men, check it out. This is the same vicious impotent pseudo-capacity of this vile language and people who embrace it.

What polls? Come on, AP, let's be specific.

Purest drivel and propaganda. If it weren’t taxpayer dollars, I would say the White House should pay for this fantasy.

How exactly is this “news”?

It’s like some old Soviet propaganda piece. Luckily, the AP is paying low scale and this is only some kid probably straight out college. I’d hate to think they are paying $60k a year for a guy to write this.

Sure, like filibustering everything they can find when in the minority, and locking the Rs out of the room when they have the majority. Great “compromise” there.

For Dems, “compromise” means to give them everything they want, with some token gesture to the Republicans, some symbolic fig-leaf, to mask what’s actually going on.

My thought exactly.. it might be independent research but it was reported by AP so that in itself makes it questionable.

changes in primary-election politics that are complicating Congress’ ability to solve big problems in ways that are acceptable to liberals.

That's what the writer meant.

Yes.

e.g., Democrats want to spend 200 billion on new giveaways to felons and illegal aliens, while conservative Republicans do not want to give any. So the Democrats "compromise" by proposing to give only 150 billion in giveaways to felons and illegal aliens. So you see, Democrats want to compromise. At least that's the logic the media is going by here.

News Flash! Voters haven’t shifted right - the government has shifted left. Hard left of late. The news media has gone full-blown leftie as well, leaving little or nothing even neutral, let alone “right wing”.

I saw the general leftward shift a while back when publications like US News seemingly took a left turn from what might have been “middle-of-the-road” to solid left. I quit that publication in the early 2000s.

Many others followed the same footsteps.

Democrats are “open to compromise” when they are willing to accept half of everything on their want-list.

Republicans are “not open to compromise” when they are not willing to give Democrats everything they want - half at a time.

If Republicans wants are ever even addressed, they only wind up as promises that will never be delivered.

Rats are more stubbornly communist than ever.

It’s good that lawmakers be scared of the people. That’s what the Founders intended!

We are all suppose to ignore the fact that Democrats kicked out the moderate “blue dog” Democrats from their party when ever they would compromise with Republicans. Remember Joe Lieberman who was challenged by a liberal Democrat and the Republican party came to his rescue?

Another shot across the bow of the Republican “conservatives” (tea party) who are sick and tired of electing RINO’s who lick the rear-ends of Democrats, calling it compromising. AP wants immigration, gun control, and more socialism, but, those neo-cons are standing in the way!

The tea party put the Republicans in charge of the US House in order to stop the Obama socialism and so far, this is what they are doing (except for increasing the debt limit etc.) and the socialist AP simply does not like it!
