Way too much royal drama for me.

If one believes in ‘royalty’ or ‘royal blood’ simply by accident-of-birth then one cannot possibly be conservative.

The only way that I would pay any attention to ‘royalty’ is if each and every one of them would all be gathered up and hung on worldwide TV.

Guess that depends on one's definition of "conservative." If it means someone who does not want to randomly jettison the traditions of the past out of hatred and envy, then I'm certainly a conservative.

Nota bene: it's the Marxists who advocate the execution of aristocrats which you say you would watch on TV. Are you playing on their team? That's what the Bolsheviks did to the Russian Imperial family, "each and every one of them," as you say. Machine-gunned, as I recall, but the effect is the same. Lovely group of people you find yourself in ageement with.

You appear not to have understood my post. Neither you nor I can comment on the individual character of members of the British Royal Family; only God has that information. But the royals provide an economic spur to the economy of their nation in ways I detailed in my prior post, and they provide historical and cultural continuity that is very important to a United Kingdom that is presently very much challenged. Since they are not presently seeking to impose control over the US, why are you so hostile toward them? Smells like class hatred.

OK, it's a bit of an exaggeration. But even though you are a Scot rather than an Englishman, and probably (?) not a horseman, you have to agree: tourism, racing and equestrian sports, field sports, art, architecture, interior decoration, and much else in the economy of England is propelled by interests and style established by the Crown and aristocracy or gentry. The aspiration to be more like those further up the social ladder is a fundamental human trait, and it drives many choices in the spending of discretionary income. Also, the trickle-down effect of expenditures by the rich is real in Western economies, especially in these non-essential activities. The standards they require also keeps traditional crafts alive and maintains public interest in them, to the benefit of the British economy.

Since you are not an American, you may not realize that the Royal Family et cetera are simply an enormous tourist draw. Not that a lot of people go to the UK in the realistic hopes of a sighting of a royal, but they want to see the coaches and palaces and appurtenances of royalty. These things would get dusty, sad, and depressing when they are no longer in use but are just kept as artifacts of a dim past that no one really remembers. You can see this when you visit countries that used to have a monarchy and now barely remember it. There's just no life to the houses and what-not on display, only a mournful sense that this world is lost, and not to be cared about.

Now, please do not misunderstand: I, being partly of English descent (among other things) am the very last person to think that British history is unimportant in even the smallest regard. I believe it is in every respect to be studied, researched, and TAUGHT so that young Brits in general are culturally united. History is absolutely crucial to developing a nation's sense of self, unifying the people. I am saying that the British monarchy is a vital part of British, specifically English, culture and history, though of course it imposed itself on the Scots, Welsh, Irish, islanders, and the peoples of the colonial empire. If there are no more royals or aristocrats, that element of a unifying culture is gone. In my view, the UK does not need any further cultural losses and fractures.

And by the way, a mare is a female. So, usually, is a mom, as you can see from my tagline. I am a lady, not a person one might refer to in sarcasm as a squire.

“Smells like class hatred.”

Class hatred? Who said that they have ‘class’? They put their pants on one leg at a time just as I do. They have this high, exalted position for simply being born. ;-)

“Lurch” had an affair that later led to marriage to a ‘commoner’. The ‘precious Di’ had an affair with a stable boy! Class? You simply have to be joking!

BTW, why are brits referred to as ‘commoners’?

I think you have misunderstood the term “class.” As the term is usually used, it does not refer to an individual’s personal behavior, good or bad. It refers to a complex of background and upbringing, tastes, interests, values, goals, and beliefs shared by a group.

Class hatred is hatred for people just because they come from a particular social class. The lazy poor hate middle-class people, who prosper from hard work and self-discipline. Marxists hate the middle class as a reservoir of social values and also hate the aristocracy, as you do; this is what led to bloodbaths of the successful and/or educated wherever communism has taken root. The sort of thing you advocate, in other words.

In this country, we don’t hate those who have more money or status than we do. At least, most of us don’t. It’s unAmerican to hate the rich, because most Americans have faith that with hard work, intelligence, talent, and determination, we all have the chance to become successful. We too could become rich, and most of us would like to be rich, so it would be a bit hypocritical to hate the rich.

It would be interesting to know why you have so much resentment toward rich foreign people who have absolutely no influence on your life, for good or ill. I wonder at what point people have enough money or power that it triggers a desire to see people executed for having more than you do.

In any case, you’d make a very good Bolshevik. Lenin would have loved your attitude.

Interesting that they spell the name Frances in the feminine form on the male list.

Perhaps the baby is gay?

Aren’t you assuming that they have ‘more than I do’?

As I orinally stated, I simply do not believe in ‘royalty’ simply by ‘accident-of-birth’ and the fawning over them by many in the world I find quite repulsive. Moreover, they probably became ‘royalty’ by killing all of their opponents.

The Queen is NOT head of the Church. Jesus Christ is the head of the church. The monarch is merely the governor.
