A huge majority of African-Americans disapprove of the jury verdict in the case of George Zimmerman, the Sanford, Florida neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted of murder charges a week ago in the self-defense shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
In a Washington Post-ABC poll released Monday, more than 1,000 Americans were asked whether they approved of the Zimmerman verdict. A whopping 81 per cent of blacks said no, while just nine per cent said yes.
The numbers were sharply reversed among whites, with 51 per cent favoring the jury's decision and 27 per cent disapproving.
And shortly after Attorney General Eric Holder was assuring the NAACP at its convention last week that his Justice Department was still investigating the Zimmerman case, an 81 per cent majority of blacks told pollsters that they believe Zimmerman should face new civil rights charges in federal court. Just 13 per cent disagreed.
White respondents were opposed, but less strongly, by a 59-27 margin. Overall, ABC found that 39 per cent of Americans thought Zimmerman should be charged again. Forty-six percent disagreed.
ABC conducted its poll July 18-21. A separate poll of 1,000 Americans released Thursday and conducted July 15-16 by Rasmussen Reports found that in the days immediately following Zimmerman's acquittal, just 21 per cent - barely half the number in ABC's poll a few days later - thought federal civil-rights charges were warranted.
Asked if they agreed with the jury verdict in Sanford, Florida, less than half overall - 48 per cent - told the Rasmussen researchers they did. Thirty-four per cent disagreed.
In a separate Rasmussen poll conducted July 17-18, 48 per cent of Americans said they view Zimmerman unfavorably, compared to 32 per cent who had a favorable view of him.

some will believe what the seek, others believe what their told
Seems to me to split down partisan lines pretty uniformly. And that is telling. Some doesn’t have critical thinking skills but don’t use them or are in denial.
ONLY 51 per cent favoring the jury’s decision.
I’ll wager the others got their news from the lamestream.
Gee, there is a shock. Not.
I have a black former friend who has bought all the media spin and lies. The facts mean nothing to him. Hence, as I said, former friend.
Both sides should line up on this law and order issue.
That they don’t reveals a stunted growth by a segment of our populace.
I could never back my kid for banging some guy’s head into the cement over and over.
If you’ve got the guy down, subdue him and wait for the police.
What Zimmerman did that Martin responded to was not a capital offense. What Martin was doing could very well have become a capital offense. Zimmerman defended himself the only way he could.
If they think about it a little bit, I don’t think blacks really want to go back to the day when their trial verdicts were not based on evidence. It might seem like a good idea at first, but history tells us that it did not work out very well for them in the past. . . .
“Overall, ABC found that 39 per cent of Americans thought Zimmerman should be charged again.”
Easily explains the re-election of Obama.
Only 81% of blacks disapprove? I’m mildly surprise, though it would be high. Nearly 20% either agreed, or knew they didnt know enough to make an informed opinion.. Impressive.
“A huge majority of African-Americans” know nothing about the judicial system, are ignorant of the constitution and are extremely racist and envious of whites. Thanks to “The Great Society, tolerance and diversity, social justice, minimum wage and affirmative action among 100 others.
This makes it clear who the real racists are....its sad but true.
Shows how deluded the black population is and why the Slave party keeps winning their votes. I blame it on the RINO party or what use to be called the Republican party. They just let the Slave party trounce all over them without one shred of rebuttal coming from their mouths. “The Republican party is the party that hates African Americans!” “Oh whatever you say sir!” Romney could have destroyed the admitted foreign born unconstitutionally elected POTUS last election if he just communicated the TRUTH about the Slave party and blacks. But nooo, it’s the same old “OOhhh we don’t want to go there...get tooo tough or get called raaacists! Wooo so let’s be niiice!” Meanwhile the Slave party day after day after day after day just says one lying piece of garabage after another which is why blacks believe it.
... which is precisely what the divisive POS POTUS intended when he injected his commie self into the matter.
If youve got the guy down, subdue him and wait for the police.
Indeed. Just last year, a Florida jury (Broward) convicted Wayne Treacy (white, age 17 at the time of the offense) of Attempted First-Degree Murder. In March 2010, Treacy threw Josie Lou Ratley to the pavement, then repeatedly slammed her head against the ground and kicked her in the head. The defense attempted an insanity plea, but the jury rejected it, finding the crime to be a calculated act of an angry young man intent on murder.
Of course, the white community did not raise Hell over those charges. In Jena, Louisiana back in 2006, a similar beat-down that included kicking resulted in attempted murder charges, but the prosecutor lowered the charges due to local "political pressure".
It seems that only one group in this country is clinging to the Rule of Law and justice as said law provides. Everyone else is out to contort the system so that they and theirs get off with minimal penalty.
Only half of whites favor the verdict? The white guilt trip media narrative actually worked.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s like hearing from a coworker that while they were on vacation—his wife left him for the scuba instructor, the dog died at the kennel and his daughter ran off with a thrash band bass player. So you say,
“Hey, that’s terrible. Sorry to hear it, anything I can do just let me know ....”
Well their vacation was in 1990 (!) but he wants to wallow in it every day at lunch. You can’t get away from him, he’s been drunk and hostile, been demoted, is always wanting ‘loans’ and favors .......
Yeah, that chit’s getting old.
If I was ignorant of the facts, and believed that Zimmermann was a white racist cop-wanabe that chased down an innocent 12 year old black child so he could shoot him in cold blood (as the press would like you to believe), I probably wouldn’t agree with the verdict either.
But then I’m not that ignorant.
If 81% of blacks feel this way - in spite of the evidence available, then there is really no reason to try to reach out and talk to them.
They really don’t wanna hear what anyone else has to say. IOW, they can live in their fantasy world of blaming it all on “The Man” and “Whitey”.
Of that 81% of blacks, how many of them would have done the same thing that Zimmerman did - if faced with a violent attack?
You can bet your ass that almost all of them would.
In some conservative media circles, they have been blaming the media on trying to create racial tensions and racial gulf.
I’m starting to wonder if in fact the media isn’t reporting it accurately after all? 81% is pretty convincing that there’s a huge disconnect between us and them.
Charles, I think you see that exactly the same way I do.
I appreciate the comments. They were very sound.
Almost convicted of crime he didn't commit, he escaped to the Miami underground. Today, still wanted by the Federal government, he survives as a soldier of fortune. If you have a problem...if no one else can help...and if you can find him...maybe you can hire... George Zimmerman.
The tribe always sticks together.
Not here it didn't. In this household, all of us approve of the verdict and we all feel charges should never have been filed.
Some of us think charges should be filed against those who filed the charges.
ABC did the poll to refute Rasmussen. Can’t have the narrative of Obama disputed ANYWHERE, you see....
I am so almighty weary of the cheap, cheating "even-handedness" that makes a pundit feel it's only "fair" to say to say "Zimmerman did wrong, too" or "Zimmerman showed oversealousness when..."
Bullninnies. George Zimmerman was doing a stellar job as a Neighborhood Watch captain, and should rightly be seen as a hero and a mensch.
Trayvon Martin decided to launch a felony aggravated assault on someone who had done him no harm, someone who was in fact trying to protect the community Martin was living in. Too bad Mr. Martin got the logical and natural consequence of his error.
I do pray for the repose of his soul.
But no flowers for Trayvon. I´d rather give George a bouquet.
I’m in the same boat you are. I am backing away from the black friends I have that fall for this Travon Martin crap. I just don’t trust them anymore and I don’t need this. We expect moderate Muslims to speak up for their radicals; I expect no less from the black community. All blacks are as Muslims to me now. THANK YOU OBAMA you racist bigot! The Old Testament is right: “You shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons, for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. Then the anger of the Lord would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.” Deut 7:3-4.
What’s the matter with you Crazy a$$ Crackas out there. People with appropriate skin color must be allowed to administer 2 broken noses with out retribution before any self defense laws kick in (just as illegal aliens, with appropriate skin color, are allowed to forge two passports, under the new Obama/Reid illegal immigration bill).
While I agree that Ben Stein did play the 'Zimmerman is no angel' game, Ben Stein's recent article is the most damning thing that I've ever seen him write about black agitators in particular, but also about the black community on the whole. He really calls them on their BS...
I only wonder why he said ""Zimmerman --- while a fool ---" etc. It does look like a parenthetical just stuck in there, and incongruous with the rest of the article.
Perhaps he just meant it as a sigh of weary irony, as in "What a fool to try to Do The Right Thing in such a risky world where no good deed ever goes unpunished..."..."
And the same 39% don't believe in the Constitution nor know what double jeopardy means.
