'Defund NSA' amendment will get a vote

Members of the House of Representatives will vote this week on Rep. Justin Amash's amendment to defund the National Security Agency. Amash, R-Mich., announced the news on his Facebook page, writing, "I want to thank Speaker Boehner for working diligently toward resolving significant concerns over the amendment process with respect to NSA."

Amash's amendment would defund the NSA if the agency collected data and records from individuals who were not under official investigation. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court would be required to provide a statement confirming that the data being collected by the NSA is from a person under investigation.

Concerns surrounding the amendment process were resolved late Monday when the House Rules Committee voted to allow NSA amendments to the Department of Defense appropriations bill.

Maybe not. Our complaint about the silly HOR anti-Obamacare votes was that they're never votes to defund Obamacare.

NSA chief lobbies lawmakers to kill amendment that would limit surveillance

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3046647/posts

Amash said his measure would allow the NSA to collect data and records, but only if the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court said in a statement that the collection of data pertains to an individual under investigation. Otherwise, the NSA would lose its funding.

Other amendments being considered at the link.

That statement is unfounded, baseless.

You don’t know who they catch or do not catch.

So far, there are no actual examples of harming ordinary Americans.

The results will be that the judges become more attentive and request approval will not be SOP

“So far, there are no actual examples of harming ordinary Americans.”

What they’ve admitted to date harms - directly harms - every American.

If you wish to argue that ignoring the Constitution does not equal “harm” then fine, but that is the basic tenet of the “living document” folks that are the Republican party.

The Law is the law. Congress created the NSA and can disassemble it.

The courts have not ruled that the NSA is unconstitutional.

Congress will not disassemble the NSA now.

“The courts have not ruled that the NSA is unconstitutional.”

It matters not what the courts say about what is or isn’t Constitutional. It only matters what freedom-loving Americans are willing to tolerate from abusive government bureaucracy and activist jurists.

The founding fathers didn’t need a ruling from the court to put the Bill of Rights together. Today’s Americans do not need to wait for a ruling from black-robed tyrants in order to affirm their God-given rights in the Land of the Free.

When do we get to the vote that would shut down the IRS?

Even Sensenbrenner diagrees with the NSA “authority” under the Patriot Act.

You are having it both ways.
Section 215 expires at the end of 2015 and there are not the votes to renew it.
You have to change how you operate.

We got a vote to cut IRS funding last week I think

The IRS can not be abolished because it administers and enforces the existing tax law. Until that method of taxation is changed, the IRS must continue.

What has happened under the Obama administration is anomaly. If Louis Lerner and ten or 12 others were executed for crimes against the Republic, the current problems would cease. The only question in my mind is how many get hung?

And who would change that tax law but the “conservative” House?

The South was right all along.

Just as I predicted. Libertarianism is about to seize the wheel from us as the official opposition to Big Government Socialism.

I won’t argue that issue now, but that is not the topic. The post topic is defunding the IRS.

As I see it, there is no real though effort or pressure at present to replace the present system.

Wants and reality are not the same. The Obamacare debacle is on the agenda at present.
