Researchers at NASAs Texas-based Johnson Space Center are trying to prove that it is possible to travel faster than the speed of light, and hope to one day build an engine that resembles the fictional Starship Enterprise.
NASA physicist and engineer Dr. Harold G. White, 43, believes it is possible to bend the rules of time and space that Albert Einstein constructed when he postulated that it is impossible to exceed the speed of light.
White's research is based on the theories of Mexican physicist Miguel Alcubierre, who in 1994 theorized that exceeding Einsteins galactic speed limit was possible if scientists discovered a way to harness the expansion and contraction of space. And Harold and his team are trying to do just that.

If it is faster than light, how can they keep up with it to build it....
I call BS.
Never saw any NASA logos on the Enterprise.
Ye cannoh change the laws of PHYSICS, Cap’n.
Can’t NASA complete the prior mission before going off and spending money on a new one?
I want to know how the current project is going... the one that is in search for extra-terrestrial 72-virgin life?
scientific advancement is linear is small steps... we can’t just jump to warp technology with out discoveries in between.
imagine going back to the stone ages and trying to build a radio.
Without any shred of evidence that it's possible to do so, they're going to "try to prove" something by building something??
That’s a really stupid headline. The very basic research they are doing is not even close to any application. What they are doing is building a device to research how to alter the trajectory of photons in certain ways. All the other hype is based on the implications of the concepts involved if taken to the nth degree.
I really hate irresponsible media hype.
We probably already have these...
Given the way government works and what we learned about the NSA.... the people who have been saying we have moon bases are probably wrong, we probably have bases on mars and alpha centari too.....
So, what happens when you run into a speck of cosmic dust at that speed? Hmmm.....
And I’m not sure why they do it. At best it’ll make some people interested in science. At worst it’ll bring out the ‘aww hell, those nasa boys are wasting our money again’ types.
Can’t we solve global warming before we control space time?
You's probably freak someone out!
And don’t they need to worry about getting more Muslims in space, first?
Government underpants gnomes:
1) violate Einstein’s field equations
“Without any shred of evidence that it’s possible to do so, they’re going to “try to prove” something by building something??”
Good point. I wonder if NASA’s primary responsibility, muzlim outreach, influenced this innovative thinking
If you don’t understand them as well as you think you do, you don’t change them. You change you.
