"It was crazy. Beyond our control," says the manager of the King Convenience store in the 1500 block of U Street in Southeast D.C.
He says a flash mob of teens stole candy, soda and other items from his store Saturday night.
"Bunch of kids, more than 20 or 30, grabbed everything," he says, asking not to be identified. "They grabbed everything and then ran away from the store."
An employee ran outside to try and stop some of the teens involved in the flash mob. He was confronted by one of them armed with a stick and is now recovering at home from his injuries.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5'8" tall, 180 pounds, with a medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt with a Nike emblem, short-sleeve jean jacket or vest, a white sweatband on his head, and knee-length jean shorts and tennis shoes.
The previous owner, they locked the store and everything was inside, the manager says. We believe in community and opened everything up and try to do business, but sometimes it's hard.
The new owners, who took over a year and half ago, say they would like to see police patrol the block every two hours or so, and crack down on loitering nearby.
For now, they don't plan to start locking everything up behind glass again.
"I have a lot of good customers, and because of them, I will try to keep it the way it is now," says the manager.
If you can identify any of the teens or know anything about the theft, you should call D.C. Police at 202-727-9099.
Figuring out who the “youths” in videos like these is like finding out if the sun will rise tomorrow.

We believe in community...”
The “community” will keep coming back for more freebies and beating you senseless until you close shop.
Send the bill for everything to Holder and Obama along with a lawsuit for not carrying out their duties and for encouraging mob criminal behavior.
Let’s stop giving trendy names to what is going on. Its not a “flash mob” — its a lawless group of criminals who stole from a store. The reason it happens on this scale is because the rule of law is breaking down in our cities.
What color were they? LOL, just kidding.
The EBT business has it’s downside.
A couple of shot gun blasts would save society literally millions of dollars.
Bet there was a run on Skittles and Arizona Ice Tea.
Flash mob robbery is Legal DC
Nothing new. Don't you remember reading about the Dalton flash mob or the James flash mob or the Clanton flash mob or the...well, you get it.
I’ve heard of liquor stores in some of these ghetto areas, in which the clerk sits behind bullet proof glass, and slides the bottles of liquor to you through a trap door.
Maybe that’s the only way these businesses can do business in the ghetto anymore. Now that flash mobbing is becoming so common, even in some nicer areas, we could see changes in how these places do business.
From the video this store is obviously in a poor neighborhood where the residents don't have a lot of options to buy their necessities and is likely a locally owned small business. Where will these people get their food if the owner can't afford these losses and closes the store? DC officials have stopped Wall Mart from opening stores in the district so the shopping options for residents will get pretty thin with these hooligans causing small businesses to close.
Maybe every store should keep a couple of these behind the counter, and spray everyone in site when a flash mob attacks. You cannot do crowd control in a situation like this with lethal force.
LOL It’s Goodyear neck.
