In a close vote yesterday in the House, 205-2017, a bill to stop NSA spying on Americans and roll back the Patriot Act was defeated. Part of the reason for the defeat was the House Democratic Leadership who voted for continued spying on American citizens, even though many made public statements condemning the Patriot Act.
Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, and Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz all voted for violating the 4th amendment. Nancy Pelosis vote may be the most dishonest of all given her previous statements on the Patriot Act.
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi spoke on the House floor this afternoon in opposition to extension of provisions of the USA Patriot Act because they would curtail individual liberties
I cannot support the Patriot Act extension conference report because it does not secure the right balance between security and liberty. Our Founding Fathers led a revolution to secure liberty against an arbitrary power. They knew that you cannot have security without liberty, or liberty without security in a democracy.
That was when her vote didnt matter, when it did her position reversed entirely.
In total 83 Democrats supported the NSA program and voted against the bill. Among the other Democrats who voted against limiting the NSAs power were many members of the Black Congressional Caucus, previously though of as The Conscience of Congress. No longer a bloc vote apparently.
The Democratic Party previously presented itself as strong opponents of illegal spying, but last nights vote proved that assertion dead wrong. The leadership of both of Americas two major political parties hold the Constitution in contempt. Who said bi-partisanship is dead?
The GOP leadership did not distinguish themselves either on this vote.
But it’s still fun to watch their heads explode! Go read some of their comments.
Republican leaders, too -— disgusting.
You are correct. Here’s a cute comment from over there: “Primary them all and let God sortem out.”
GOP 40.17% to 57.26% FOR the NSA spying.
(6 GOP & 6 Dems voted present)
The Dems were more to defend our Constitutional rights than the GOP scum.
When Libs prove their willingness to walk away from the welfare and food stamps and redistribution, and to not vote for the Democrat over principle, maybe I’ll have some respect for them.
Till that day, not bloody well likely.
It wasn’t only the Dems.
Just proves that when it comes down to the nut cuttin’, they’re all together.
Never said it was
