Report: Producers involved in Asiana pilot fake names gaffe fired...Mel Brooks?

(Liz Klimas) At least three producers with the San Francisco news station KTVU-TV have been fired for the incident earlier this month where fake names of Asian Airlines pilots were read on air, according to reports.

First reported by radio host Rich Lieberman and confirmed by sources at the station by the San Francisco Chronicle, investigative producer Roland DeWolk, special projects producer Cristina Gastelu and producer Brad Belstock were fired in connection with the noon broadcast on July 12 where anchor Tori Campbell read the fake names.

I wouldn’t fire the one who read the names on the air. Talking faces are nothing more than pretty-face readers. They fake emotion and understanding of what they read. If they are female, they cross and uncross their legs often enough to keep the male viewers watching.

You could write the words “I am a stupid jerk” on a paper and put it in front of them, and they would read it with enthusiasm.

What kind of idiot do you have to be to read the names “Captain Sum Ting Wong” and “Wi Tu Lo” and not know that somebody's goofing on you?

Even Red the Bartender figured out he was being goofed on once he yelled "Sal Lami!" or "Pepe! Pepe Roni!" out loud.

The Asiana pilots are so bad that they wreck a B-777, kill 3 people (so far), injure scores of others, close down one of the world's major airports for days, impact the entire National Airspace System, and in general embarass any pilot of Asian ethnicity because they reinforced the impression of them that they are button pushers and not pilots, but we're all supposed to be horrified that - gasp - someone made fun of them? And they took offense?

It's the smallest of sins. Wait until the lawyers put them on the stand.

Ethnic jokes are going to seem trivial compared to that.

Actually seems fair. If they’re the clowns who made up the names, got them ‘confirmed’, and fed them to the newsreader, they should be held accountable. The newsreader, in contrast, was really just doing her job.
