Bank breaks into woman’s home, steals her stuff (Update on the story)
The Blaze.com ^ | July 25th 2013 | Glenn Beck

Posted on 07/25/2013 8:59:06 PM PDT by Mad Dawgg

Glenn promised that TheBlaze would continue to cover this story until the bank rectifies the situation.

“First National Bank in Wellston, Ohio, I would recommend that you do the right thing. And it’s really shameful that you have to be shamed into it, and I would recommend that all those who have accounts with the First National Bank in Wellston call the bank and say, “What are you doing?” I mean, I’m doing business with you because you’re a local bank. Stop being a dirtbag. Do the right thing. Settle with these people. And if you haven’t, on Monday we’re going to do a nice long expose. And then on Tuesday we might even do a longer one. And on Wednesday we’ll do a huge one. And maybe if it takes a couple of weeks, we might be parked in front of your stinkin’ bank.”

"Pretty much sounds like a case of burglary. Any reason the fools couldn’t be prosecuted??"

Other than the McArthur Police have closed the case and the Wellston Police claim they don't have jurisdiction AND the Sheriffs in both counties won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

No, no reason at all! ;-)

There is nothing like being the target of media scrutiny to wake up a bunch of bankers with a god complex. Go get them Glenn Beck. Make the First National Bank in Wellston, OH a synonym for infamy. When the outrage builds and the bankers see their business dying in front of their eyes, they'll get it. Not before because their arrogance blinds them to the truth. It's time for corrective surgery.

Maybe the Feds should look into it a civil rights violation.< / sarc >

But I understand the GPS error — after all, who would think of looking at the address of the place you are looking for, and the address of the one that you are breaking into? How old-fashioned would that be.

The Woman's account was not only NOT in arrears with the First National Bank of Wellston, she has never had an account with them let alone a mortgage.

Oh good grief! This woman should have a line of lawyers around the block, salivating to get this case.

Gosh, it certainly sucks to be an officer of the Fist National Bank of Wellston, OH. These pompous jackasses are going to get a lesson they will never forget. By the time this is over they're going to put Wellston, OH on the map. This is not a good thing for the bank and its reputation.

It is not criminal behavior because no one committed a crime. People went to what they thought was a debtor and reclaimed property. No criminal intent.

It is of course a tort. The bank was foolish not to give the multiples of the pittance she asked for as others have said.

What has happened now is that Beck is on it and they will want to make things right. Of course with all the publicity, she has lawyers coming out of her ears by now and making things right will cost the bank far more, maybe 10 times or more of what they could have settled this for before.

The bank was looking for the house across the street . The lady doesn’t do business in any way, shape ,form or fashion with the bank in question . Bank manager is going to end up as dog meat & the flunkies who used the gps only to decide what house to break & enter are dog meat as well ,the police chief that declared the case closed is in for a very rude surprise .

the cops said there was no issue, case closed to them.

Let me guess: "this is a civil, not criminal, matter...."

Moral considerations aside, 18k is dirt cheap compared to the loss of goodwill and reputation. Do you really want to face a jury and tell them she should refurnish down at the Salvation Army thrift store? A vengeance minded jury, i.e., one with me as a member, would think treble damages (18k x 3 = 54k) is a low ball figure, plus court costs, lost wages, inconvenience and insult.

Why isn’t the bank liable for theft by criminal negligence?

The bank gets the wrong house, then wants to argue over the content of of their “what we threw away” list against the owner’s list that totals ONLY 18K? The bank had best hope they don’t get sued - the damages will likely be at least 6 figures, given their attitude and the irreplaceable nature of some of the discarded items.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over?

Oh it just gets better and better.

Apparently the Bank VP is the first one who entered the premises on repo day so they don't even have the "Its not our fault its the dumb repo-men's fault" argument to fall back on.

Stupid thing is, the cops said there was no issue, case closed to them.

That's because there is no money to be made from the issue for them.

If you are an attorney for this woman, this is how you come up with the damages requested in the complaint:

1. Pick the biggest number you can think of;

2. Put some zeroes on the end of it.

The bank will turn it over to their insurance company, and they will settle RIGHT NOW. And as plaintiff’s attorney, I would suggest they get out the check book, and I’ll tell them when to stop putting zeroes on the check.

If you read the bank president's letter, there is substantial disagreement about the facts. He says that the house was derilict, and almost entirely unfurnished, and very likely uninhabited. The neighbors appeared to think so, according to the bank president.

We may be getting an ex parte representation, from reporters looking for headlines.
