Feds investigate Redneck Day at Arizona high school

The U.S. Department of Education has officially opened an investigation into allegations that an Arizona high school’s campus-wide “Redneck Day” amounted to a federal civil rights violation.

The kerfuffle giving rise to the investigation arose back in May at Queen Creek High School on the outskirts of Phoenix. The student council hatched a plan to energize students for prom week that included a faculty adviser-approved “Redneck Day.” The point was to dress like – and spoof – “Duck Dynasty,” an A&E reality TV show which follows a wealthy, eccentric Louisiana family.

It’s not exactly clear how dressing like a hillbilly was going to motivate anyone for prom. What did happen, though, is that one kid bedecked himself in Confederate flag regalia, which offended some students. (RELATED: ‘Redneck Day,’ ‘White Trash Wednesday’ don’t go over so well at public schools)

In a July 18 missive to Reverend Jarrett Maupin II, the complainant, the Department’s Office for Civil Rights branch office in Denver details the status of the investigation.

“On May 23, 2013, we received your complaint alleging the Queen Creek Unified School District (District) discriminated on the basis of race,” the letter reads. “Specifically, you allege that the District discriminated by creating a racially hostile environment at the ‘redneck day’ event on May 1, 2013, at Queen Creek High School and by failing to take action to correct the racially hostile environment.”

The racial hostility apparently occurred because of one student who was wearing the Confederate flag—apparently like a cape. An assistant principal asked the student to remove the flag cape, which he did.

“It was no ill intent,” Tom Lindsey, superintendent of the Queen Creek Unified School District, told The Arizona Republic at the time.

Lindsey suggested that the Confederate flag-wearing student didn’t understand the problem at first because he had been transplant from an unnamed state where the Confederate flag is allegedly a more ordinary sight.

“We have determined that we have the authority to investigate this allegation,” the DOE letter also states. “We note, however, that the display of the confederate flag concerns rights protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. Therefore, the scope of OCR’s investigation will be limited to whether a racially hostile environment was created due to language and actions that were not protected by the First Amendment

A racially hostile enviornment? The fact that we all have to share oxygen with Eric Holdup, the Justice Bros and all the other racial racketeers is causing a racially hostile enviornment. A certain Rev Mauoin II initiated this complaint. Talk about religious fanatics trying to impose their morality on others! No complaints from the atheists? Isn't that something.

I have no passion for the Confederate Flag, but reading this just fires up my rebellious side! Near where I live there’s a van that parks off the side of one of the ‘main roads’ every afternoon. They open all of the doors to the Van, set up a couple of tables and sell Confederate Flags of all sizes. Today, I think I’ll go buy a few!

Cinco de Mayo

Why woujld the Feds do that, when it was the Feds who winked and nodded as tens of millions from Mexico entered illegally?

It was the Feds who aided and abetted this epic history changing lawless invasion. To the point where it's undermined and compromised our entire electoral process.

Nearly every single problem in America today is linked directly to government.

So now the feds go after the kiddies and their little red neck day party...

What a disgusting, disturbing state of affairs...

This shit will just keep going on until the communist powers to be push too far, and the backlash and killing starts. Keep backing Americans into a corner and don’t be surprised when they lash out, and take their country back, by FORCE.

A racially hostile environment. And when a roving band of subhumans surrounds an old woman and moves in for the attack, calling her a cracker before they beat her and steal her pocketbook. What about that, holder?

When I was in High School every day was crazy mixed-up kids day and this just sounds like another one of those. But these kids are getting a hands on lesson in government oppression that will stick with them through out their lives. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

Here is the complainant:

Five years probation for former mayoral candidate Jarrett Maupin

http://seeingredaz.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/rev_jarrett_maupin_ii.jpg?w=450

Who can forget the Rev. Al Sharpton protégée Rev. Jarrett Maupin II?

The former Phoenix mayoral candidate, now 22, was sentenced yesterday to five years probation and 75 hours of community service for making a false report to the FBI.

Maupin II was indicted in January. After admitting that he falsely informed the FBI last September that Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon had allegedly engaged in criminal activity. Maupin made the claim in order to damage Gordon’s mayoral aspirations.

According to federal prosecutors, Maupin has repudiated the false report as part of his plea agreement and also agreed to resign his position on the governing board of the Phoenix Union High School District.

In the oddest of circumstances, Maupin was removed from the 2007 city ballot after the Maricopa County Clerk’s Office determined that nearly 185 of the signatures that sealed his spot in the race were collected by convicted felons.

Maupin got off easy with the sentence. He faced up to 6 months in jail and fine of up to $2,500, as Seeing Red AZ reported last November.

When are they going to investigate all the “white privilege” seminars that government and business are mandating around the country? They are racially divisive and make many participants uncomfortable and anxious, even fearful for their jobs and/or career path if they say what they really think.

Geez. Nothing like death by political stupidity.

In the late 1970's we actually had Slave Day.

All the students got a chance to 'buy' a teacher for a day, and the teacher had to carry books, stand in line for the student at lunch, etc. (we even made a couple have an eating contest and dressed our drafting teacher as a big baby).

Oh, the horror!

We had a fairly diverse school, and NOBODY COMPLAINED!

It was one of the ways we raised money for our Senior trip.
