Trayvon Martin protesters vow to occupy the Capitol 'as long as it takes'

TALLAHASSEE –For the past 12 days and 11 nights, a crowd of college students, young political organizers and even some retirees have been walking the halls of the Florida Capitol, sitting outside Gov. Rick Scott's office and sleeping on the building's hard marble floors.

What brought them here is the death of Trayvon Martin and acquittal of the man who shot him, as well as racial profiling and juvenile justice issues highlighted by the death of the 17-year-old Miami boy. And as media attention has grown, so has their number – and their resolve not to leave anytime soon.

"I'm prepared to spend a whole month, a whole season," said Ciara Taylor, political director of the grassroots group Dream Defenders, which started the protest. "I'm prepared to be here until next legislative session. I'm prepared to do what it takes, and we're all prepared to do what it takes to win." ....

And Friday, famed singer and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte joined them and marched into the anteroom of Scott's office with the group's organizers to call for a special session.

"It makes my autumn heart dance like spring," Belafonte, 86, said of the number protesting.

Former Weston-area Sen. Nan Rich, a Democratic candidate for governor, plans to visit the group Saturday, though the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has said she will not be allowed to enter the building because it is closed to the public. However, another legislator could escort her in.

Rich said she was "proud" to support them. "These young people are very idealistic, and they feel this is their way to be a part of the process," she said.

These young people are very idealistic...

Their "ideals" do not include the rule of law, trial by a jury of your peers, and the right to defend your life. They'd probably prefer to live during Stalin's purges.

These freaks are utterly different to black-on-white crime and murder - doesn’t even register on their pea-brains.

Don’t they know that the jury spoke? Protest all you want, fools. We have moved on to happier days. George seems to be living his life of service while watching his back.

So they think jury decisions should be made based on who screams the loudest and protests the most?

Yes. Democracy is mob rule.

Sooner or later they run out of food, or can’t pay their cell phone bill.

Probably a special part of the DOJ budget to pay their bills forever.

Just tell them that if they keep it up, we are going to stage a larger protest and have OJ Simpson declared guilty and sentenced to death because we think he was guilty.

That’s not funny!

However some moron organization has government $$$ to give these leaches, so they can rape each other and continue the protest.

I left allot out in regards to behavior- better thing’s to do.

When you’re cleaning up with food stamps and unemployment and have an Obama phone, being a pain in the ass on the capitol steps “for as long as it takes” is no big deal. You weren’t doing anything away. Besides, you might be able to score some crack or meth.

Tallahassee in July is a miserable place, at least weather wise if not politically so.

I would think Scott’s chances of being renominated are 95 percent and of being reelected 15 percent.

Indirectly, yes sporos loves this crap.

No conservative groups are all on watch lists because they are dangerous!

SOME OF THEM HAVE LIBERTARIAN BENTS THAT LEAD TO WANTING FREEDOM. AHHHH HOW SCARY!!!!! IT IS ALSO RUMORED THAT MANY OF THEM CAN THINK FOR THEM SELVES, THE OBAMANTION OF THAT.

Shhh don’t tell any one, the nsa is bugging all rotary phones, and their IP transmissions.

That way when they get warnings from other countries about potential threats, they can stop them from planting bombs at marathons.

Oh wait, they were even listening to the saudi bombers phones and still could not catch them, after russia said that they should be watched.

OH OH.. One of them was cleared and went back to saudi arabia!!!!!!

Thank God they are watching us, now they want are passwords????

How long does it take after they have are passwords, before threat’s appear on our accounts, and we are taken, those who disagree with the state.

It'll be interesting if that area ends up in the path of a big hurricane this year.
