Once heated White House rivals, Obama and McCain becoming bipartisan partners in second term
Washington Post ^ | July 27, 2013 | AP

Yet in recent months, an alignment on high-profile domestic issues — not to mention an eye on their respective legacies — has transformed Obama and McCain into Washington’s most unexpected odd couple. The Arizona senator is a regular visitor to the West Wing and in near-daily contact with senior White House officials.

McCain, in an Associated Press interview, said that he and Obama "trust each other."

For Obama, the senator has become a rare Republican backer of important elements on the president’s second term agenda, including immigration overhaul, stricter background checks for gun buyers, and perhaps a fall budget deal.

The first test of that strategy probably will be the White House-backed immigration overhaul. McCain helped write and shepherd the bill through the Senate last month.

I don’t see why they call it “bipartisan”... They’re both in the “Anti-American” party.

Why would anyone be surprised by this? McCain has been sending overt signals of his true nature for years.

When were they rivals? McCain handed him the White House on a silver platter. McCain even thought that Palin would be the end of this campaign and never expected the overwhelming support that she generated. He wanted to lose in September.

Ahh, yes, and yet, there's still people on this forum who berate the public for voting for Obama rather than McCain, as if anything would have changed in the slightest...

Well, actually, it would have. McCain, like Romney, works hard on their liberal agendas and know how to get it passed. Had the House gone to Republicans in 2008, ObamaCare wouldn't even exist... Whereas McCain would have had McCC (McCainCare) fully implemented by now, along with working on his second round of amnesty bills...

suppose the Republican close the gap in the Senate in 2014 and give us a 50-50 Senate again. or a 51-49 majority,

Any bets on how long it would take for Jumpin’ John to switch party?

Why should he? He’s a more effective weapon to the dems as a “bi-partisan” statesman. If he switches parties, he loses his mojo. He just becomes another Arlen Specter.

“Barack Obama is a good man, he will make a good President... we have nothing to fear from Barack Obama....” - McCain BEFORE the election (pretty much conceded a week or two in advance, ensuring that a lot of Republicans would not bother to vote)

The title was too long, I couldn’t fit in the “barf alert” — but it isn’t really necessary, is it? ;)
