Rep. Peter King: Libertarians in GOP Risk Destroying Party (and RINOs like King don’t?)

If Republicans don’t quash the libertarian streak shown recently by some of their members they risk following the destructive lead of Democrats in the 1960s, says GOP Rep. Peter King of New York.

“When you have Rand Paul actually comparing [NSA leaker Edward] Snowden to Martin Luther King or Henry David Thoreau, this is madness,” King said Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union. “This is the anti-war left-wing Democrats of the 1960s that nominated George McGovern and destroyed their party for almost 20 years. I don’t want that happening to our party.” …

“This is the anti-war left-wing Democrats of the 1960s that nominated George McGovern and destroyed their party for almost 20 years. I don’t want that happening to our party.”

We have people on our side who are just historically illiterate. The anti-war left took over the country during the 1970s. The marched thru almost all of our institutions. The media, the colleges, the non-profits, the unions, the legal profession and the list goes on. They were all infiltrated and taken over by the left during the '70s and they have remained firmly in control of these institutions through to the present.

If the RINO’s are “Big Tent” enough for the Liberals but not the Libertarians, then it must be time for the party of the gutless to join the Whigs.

It is sad that these A-Holes didn’t learn squat from Reagan. GHWB ran on a “kinder gentler gop” platform. So BJ Clinton unseated him for reelection. So they run Dole against BJC. Gore and Kerry were just bad enough to lose to GWB. Then the POP puts up McCain and Romney against BHO. What a bunch of winners. The GOP solution is to stay the course of running Lib Lite candidates when they can against Lib Nuts and losing. Then they listen to Rove and even the Democrats for advice. I miss America.

I’ve leaned libertarian since I was about 14, and just about everyone in my family does. They also mostly join the military, and fight where they are sent to do it. MrT5 went to Nam, young and idealistic-he knew he might not come back, and thought it was obvious that LBJ did NOT intend to win that war-he did come back, and he was certainly right.

I remember that chant “Hey, hey LBJ, how many kids did you kill today”-from when I was in my teens-I think many of the chanters had the right sentiments-they were just wrong in the way they wanted to get there...

I agree 100% that our battles should be confined to REAL threats like 9-11, and defending the USA-not nation building or supporting one dictator over another in some third world hellhole-the idiot in the WH now has his own Nam on his hands because of this. It is a downright sinful waste of our blood and treasure.

The GOP establishment has the stench or corruption and needs the fresh air of Paul, Cruz, Lee, etc-if that is “destruction”, I will gladly embrace it..

The only good things about Libertarians is when you get rid of them.

What is madness is having a federal government running trillion dollar annual deficits and spying on every communication in America, while at the same time failing to control the southern border and failing to stop terrorist attacks by known terrorists.

Wow, the Establishment is really spooked right now, first the rant about the Constitution being “esoteric” by Governor Christie (R - NJ) and now scare and smear from Rep King (R - IRA).

We must be doing something Right! VIVA Rand! Viva Amash! Viva the Constitution!

It’s just so easy for these statist RINOs. Everything they don’t like they label libertarian and the bubbas just lap it up.

Agreed. Too many folks here hear “libertarian” and think “Libertarian Party”. Two completely different animals, but it makes easy fodder for the RINOs.

I thought Peter King was against amnesty. He was involved in the border fence. Looking back to a 2006 article both Steve and Peter were mentioned attacking Karl Rove.

If he had any brains he’d attack Rand Paul on amnesty lite and hispandering. Position himself as a moderate republican who voted for the Hurricane Sandy bill, Farm Bill and profiling muslims.

The cheap labor extremism of Rubio is not moderate.

Position the pork filled bill as an American first bill. Rubio wants to spend 10 times that on illegals.

I know what you mean. I share your predicament. But with a minor correction: It’s “liber-dopians”

Ahhhhh.....libertarians......cheap, selfish and self-centered. They’re like Democrats, but instead of spending their money at strip clubs, they hide it in their mattress.
