TransCanada Corp. stands by its forecast that its controversial Keystone XL pipeline project will be a major job creator after U.S. president Barack Obama derided the claim in a weekend interview.
In the session with the New York Times, Mr. Obama said the pipeline project would create no more than 2,000 direct jobs over a two-year construction period, a figure he said was a blip compared to the economys need.
Mr. Obama also suggested Canada could do more to reduced greenhouse gas emissions that could result from the pipeline, and thereby help win its approval.
In a statement issued late Saturday, TransCanada described the proposed 2,500-kilometre pipeline as the largest infrastructure project waiting to be built in the U.S., with 13,000 construction jobs alone.
We have dealt with criticism of our job number totals for over two years and we stand by them, company spokesman James Millar said.
Its not logical to think a $7.6-billion infrastructure project stretching across the entire breadth of the continental U.S. wouldnt employ thousands of workers both in the manufacturing sector and in constructing the pipeline.
In addition to the promised 13,000 construction jobs, TransCanada said it has over 50 suppliers in places like Ohio, Indiana, Arkansas and Louisiana for steel pipe, valves and motors needed to pump the crude through the line.

Look at charts of our declining economy. We NEED this and Obama is a fool.
Hey, all that dipstick can propose himself are “public works” projects. So suddenly they aren’t that great?
You mean the Canadians have discovered our CIC lies? Gasp!
The pipeline alone is reason enough to charge this monster with High Treason.
His Arrogance will disapprove the pipeline. He is just stringing everyone along as long as possible before he drops the hammer stating that it will double CO2 emissions or some other nonsense. He takes his orders from the NWO.
In the real world, a journalist would do an exposé on how Obama is tied in with Warren Buffet and killing this pipeline is a favor for Buffet throwing money at Obamas campaign.
If against all odds they manage to build this pipeline despite everything O does to kill it, O will take credit for the jobs created and the overall boost to the economy.
That is his modus operandi.
This isn’t a “public works project”. This is a private project. Obie doesn’t like those. Government should be in charge.
I disagree that he’s a fool. IMHO, he’s an evil, a-moral traitorous snake! But he’s not a fool. He is doing ALL these things with the determined intention of ruining as much of OUR Country as he can, as quickly as he can.
