Sen. Rand Paul’s criticism of the National Security Agency’s spying programs puts him in the same category as the late George McGovern, the anti-war 1972 Democratic presidential nominee, Rep. Peter King, R-New York, said Sunday.

Echoing remarks last week from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, King sharply chastised Paul for suggesting admitted NSA leaker Edward Snowden was performing an act of civil disobedience when he revealed the massive snooping programs.

King wasn’t like this years ago, as he was pragmatic. Odumbo got to him somehow.

King is setting up a strawman/ad hom attack. He is flailing as most establishmnet GOP types do under these circumstances.

Rand Paul is neither isolationist nor interventionist. Establishment GOP tend to be interventionist, while the Obama/Hillary establishment Dem types will intervene at the drop of a hat for humanitarian reasons - that is to save Muslims.

Then again, I don’t remember Bush Jr. intervening in Sudan or other places in Africa where Christians were slaughtered. But he did intervene to save Muslims.

Peter King and other GOP-e types are shaking at the info Greenwald is going to drop on Friday.

Long gone.

Big words from someone from a state that hasn’t voted Republican since Pres. Reagan’s two victories. If you can’t win your own state for the GOP, you shouldn’t hand out advice to politicians from Republican states.

1. The threat from present day terrorists are more analogous to the Anarchist problem around 1900, than the desperate struggle with Soviet (Bolshevik) Communism, that McGovern failed to fully grasp.

2. The current NSA projects far exceed anything done domestically during our desperate struggle with Communism.

3. The kindest thing one can say about Peter King, is that he totally lacks any sense of proportion. His constituents need to query him as to just what are his priorities. They are not appear to be those of a traditionally minded American.

Yeah, this from the Nelson Rockefeller of the republican party. Goldwater, too dangerous. Reagan, too dangerous. Paul, too dangerous.

Yayyy! Gerald Ford’s our nomiee! Yayyy! George Bush is our nominee! Yaayyy! Bob Dole is our nominee! Yayyyy! John McCain is our nominee! Yayyyy! Mitt Romney’s our nominee!

See a pattern?? Goldwater inspired a conservative revolution. Reagaan won two landslde elections and was basically responsible for a third (1988). We’ll see what history has to say about Paul, but we could certainly do worse! And have! (see above list)

I didn't necessarily agree with McGovern, but I thought he was a good man. Paul should be honored to be compared to him.

I read "The Wild Blue", which was about his unit. There's a reason why he was anti-war, and it wasn't solely political.

Peter King - the House’s version of John McCain. He never saw a war he didn’t like.

"Peter King is a statist"

Peter King is a NeoCon and this is a battle between the NeoCons and the isolationists.

The battle began on May 22 when the Senate foreign relations committee held a vote on whether or not to intervene in Syria.

19 votes made up of dems and pubs to intervene in Syria. There were 3 votes opposed to intervening. That was Rand Paul the isolationist plus 2 antiwar pacifist democrats. Then, not long after that, those 3 were joined by isolationist Mike Lee to introduce legislation opposing intervention.

You need to understand, it is very common for rightwing isolationists to share the same foreign policy position as the anti war pacifist democrats.

Or, as they used to say in previous times: when it came to foreign policy, there wasn't much difference between Ron Paul and Dennis Kuccinich.

McGovern grew up in Mitchell, South Dakota, where he was a renowned debater. He volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Forces upon the country's entry into World War II and as a B-24 Liberator pilot flew 35 missions over German-occupied Europe. Among the medals bestowed upon him was a Distinguished Flying Cross for making a hazardous emergency landing of his damaged plane and saving his crew

McGovern was dangerously naive about communism from WWII to Vietnam. His record as Henry Wallace’s campaign manager in 1948 is worth study. Wallace later admitted he had been used by the Soviets during the buildup to the war in Korea.

In 1972 I was flying helicopters in Vietnam while McGovern was in Saigon undermining our allies & promising to go on his knees to Hanoi. During the campaign he stated that his enemy was not the Soviet or Red Chinese militaries, but the U.S. military, and vowed to cut defense spending by 25%.

Combat service does not render one’s political views as being immune to criticism. Not his, not mine or anybody’s.
