8 Arrested in Violence After Huntington Beach Surfing Competition

The violence erupted among a crowd of thousands gathered for the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing, which includes surfing, skateboarding and BMX biking events, possibly after a fistfight in downtown Huntington Beach (map). City vehicles, newspaper racks and street signs also were damaged in the wave of violence on and near Main Street.

My husband and I grew up in HB and remember every year like clockwork the riots would happen on the 4th of July. I’m glad that it doesn’t happen anymore and this type of thing is now rare....

and in my day all of us chicks who wanted to be seen went south of the pier but no farther than lifeguard station 5!!!
