An email has emerged suggesting a connection between the prisoner transfer deal negotiated between Libya and the last Labour government, that could have allowed the release of the Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, and a £400m arms deal.
The document, which shows that Sir Vincent Fean, the then British ambassador to Libya, wrote to Tony Blair in June 2008 saying that the prisoner transfer agreement was "ready for signature in London" as soon as Libya went ahead with the purchase of an air defence system, was obtained by the Sunday Telegraph.

Hey, N&V, here’s the real news flash. I was NOT on Pan Am flight 103, which blew up over Lockerbie in 1988.
I was planning a trip with a travel agent, but every time she got into the system to make my reservations, the system crashed. This happened repeatedly. So I threw up my hands and swore, and went somewhere else.
The worst part of the crash, besides all those formerly wonderful dead people, was the demise of Pan Am. In financial trouble (like the rest of the airlines at that time), Pan Am had made the very bad decision to sell it’s Asian routes and concentrate on Europe. After the crash, you couldn’t pay people to fly Pan Am. I actually did, come to think of it, a few months later, because PanAm was practically giving tickets away. But you had to get to the airport hours in advance to go thru PanAm security, because they checked everything thoroughly while the other airlines’ security lines were a breeze.
As for the politics of prisoner exchange, who would expect anything but corruption? I ask you?
right next to unobtainium
I loved Pan Am! I got teary eyed seeing that blue circle that was going to take me home after flying in those Russian tin boxes.
