Dream Defenders in Florida Capitol say: ‘This is not temporary’
workers.org ^ | July 28, 2013 | Imani Henry and Scott Williams

Tallahassee, Fla., July 28 — In response to the freeing of George Zimmerman, the killer of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was stalked and shot to death simply because he was young, Black and male, the students of color group — the Dream Defenders — have been sitting in and sleeping over in the Florida Statehouse here since July 16.

Initially calling this action, #takeovertuesdays, the Dream Defenders seized the outer office of Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s 12 days ago. They are calling on Scott to convene a special session of the Florida Legislature, “to repeal the state Stand Your Ground law, ban racial profiling and end the school-to-prison pipeline.”

Despite an attempt by the state police to starve out the protesters by preventing donated food from reaching them, the struggle continues. The campaign has been renamed #takeoverFL; the Dream Defenders remain defiant that they will not leave the Capitol building until their main demands are met.

Dream Defenders’ Executive Director Philip Agnew told Workers World, “The most important thing that people should know is we are not leaving here. This is not a temporary thing. The governor and the Legislature need to know that this is for the future so no one has to do this again. This is not just about the verdict. This is just the latest in a series of injustices against young people.”

What if they have to go to the bathroom?

why don’t they just shut off the power and water, and let them sweat?

They're down for the struggle. Yeah, okay.

Why do the cops allow food to be brought in?

dream defenders = professional protestors trying for repealing “stand your ground” laws - sponsored by Obama and the DOJ.

to repeal the state Stand Your Ground law, ban racial profiling and end the school-to-prison pipeline.

All three of these are criminal enabler provisions

"This is not a temporary thing. The governor and the Legislature need to know that this is for the future so no one has to do this again. This is not just about the verdict. This is just the latest in a series of injustices against young people.”

Ride them out. Ridicule them and laugh at them and ignore them.

They have to leave sooner or later, one way or another.

Kind of like self-deportation only it will succeed.

If they do stay, look up legal options and fully endorse them.

But, by all means humiliate them and encourage other to do the same.

"Why do the cops allow food to be brought in?"

They could say no food or drink can be brought in because it might be poisoned and the police were there to defend and protect the squatters.

The protesters and any organizations that are officially supporting them need to be presented the bill for the cost of police security and overtime and for cleanup costs. It should total in the hundreds of thousands. Make ‘em pay up.

“... 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was stalked and shot to death simply because he was young, Black and male,...”

And so we hear from another group refusing to accept the truth as presented in the very court case these scabs on liberty demanded, screaming, when Mr. Zimmerman was first identified.

I fear for the future of this grand experiment.

I’m tired of hearing this BS - Trayvon was NOT stalked, if anything, he stalked Zimmerman and tried to beat him to death. Zimmerman had the wherewithal to draw his weapon and stop the aggressor. And that ticks off the leftists that think that thugs should be allowed to have their way with others.

I’d have done exactly what George did in his situation. Self defense is a GOD-GIVEN right. The power-hungry thugs in the government hate that, but that’s the way it is.

If Jesse’s gang wants to start something over this, let him start it. I’m more than willing to end it and it won’t be in their favor if that happens.

“who was stalked and shot to death simply because he was young, Black and male,”

those idiots are really stupid enough to believe their propaganda.

So, we have to ask them, are all those thousands of other blacks that are killed by blacks killed because they were black, too?

Gov. Scott should pipe in Rush Limbaugh over the sound system every day and turn off the A/C. It is about 95 here in Fla. That should cut their stay short.

Because the legislators , including Governor Scott, are in favor of them being there. If they were not, they would have the riot squad remove them. The law abiding citizens have been sold down the river one more time.

If they were a pro Second Amendment or pro life group doing that, the riot squad would been on them like white on rice.

You can bet the farm if these were pro Second Amendment or pro life demonstrators , they would have been removed long ago. By force if necessary.

It’s funny as Scott brought this on himself, if he had not brought in his hand selected prosecutor to put on the show trial things would have died down long ago. Instead he raised the lefts expectations only to have them dashed to pieces when the jury didn’t go along with the program. Also don’t understand why the cops don’t simply arrest them which they would do in a heart beat if it was me or you doing this “sit-in”.

scott passed the buck to bondi,

she appointed a political ally in because it was a fellow female lawyer as a feather for her hat.

The sad fact is these prosecutors are going to get away with prosecutorial misconduct.

corey should be disbarred at the very least.

“corey should be disbarred at the very least.”

Unfortunately she will be promoted and generally rewarded for this criminal act. The elites value blind loyalty like this and have consistently rewarded it, just look at what happened to those that over saw Waco and Ruby Ridge if you want examples from the past. I expect the Cory will at a minimum be given a shot at FL state AG or maybe made a US attorney, who knows maybe even given the opportunity to replace Holder when he decides to cash out.

Whoever is behind it will keep doing this in other places if it works in Florida. Best to find the head of this snake and cut it off now.
