John McCain: We Might Drop Those 20,000 New Border Patrol Agents We Promised
Townhall ^ | 07/31/2013 | Katie Pavlich

As the House of Representatives prepares to take up the issue of illegal immigration, the Senate is already prepping for conference negotiations with John McCain taking the lead.

It turns out, some of the most crucial aspects of border enforcement already passed by the Senate, including the addition of 20,000 new Border Patrol agents, are likely to be negotiated away, proving once again that the Gang of 8 was a complete sham.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) signaled Tuesday that the dramatic boost in border-security in the Senate’s comprehensive immigration bill could be one of the provisions that may be changed in a potential House-Senate compromise.
During an immigration forum hosted by the AFL-CIO Tuesday, McCain – a key Senate Gang of Eight negotiator – said while a pathway to citizenship for the nation’s undocumented immigrants is a “fundamental element” of the bill, the “rest of it could be adjusted.” He singled out the border security parts as an example.

“We don’t need 20,000 additional border patrol agents,” McCain said Tuesday. “But what we do need is use of technology that has been developed where we can survey the border more effectively.”

The border-security provisions in the Gang of Eight bill, written by Republican Sens. Bob Corker of Tennessee and John Hoeven of North Dakota, would set aside more than $46 billion to double the number of border patrol agents along the southwestern U.S. boundary, add new surveillance technology and to complete the 700-mile border fence.

In case you missed it, Breitbart News recently proved why we in fact do need more Border Patrol agents and better security along the southern border with Mexico.

Currently, a bipartisan "Gang of 7" is working to present an immigration plan. Details of what they're working on a thin, but many fear border security provisions will be far from sufficient, resulting in amnesty with little enforcement for more than 11 million illegal immigrants.

Broadly, going to conference means losing control of the legislation – meaning pro-amnesty lawmakers will gain control.  Even under the best case scenario, House conservatives trying to steer away from amnesty will be a distinct minority on any conference committee. They’d be pared with pro-amnesty Democrats from the House and Senate and pro-amnesty Republicans in the Senate.  The deck would be stacked to deliver an amnesty plan that closely resembles the Senate’s Gang of Eight bill.
Congress heads into August recess on Friday and will hear from constituents back at home about this very issue. Debate and details about a plan will most likely emerge in September when lawmakers return to Capitol Hill.

She owed a debt. She was honorable to pay back that debt to a dishonorable man.

So much for making the Southern border of the United States the most secure border since the Berlin Wall...

You know the big difference between the US/Mexican Border and the Berlin Wall? The guards at the Berlin Wall would shoot anybody trying to cross. Now, if we authorized the use of deadly force against anybody invading our country from the South, we could secure the US/Mexican border by the end of the week. Illegal crossings would drop to zero overnight.

The funny thing is, enforcing the border with deadly force would probably reduce the number of border-related deaths, because there would not be so many immigrants wandering around in the desert or putting themselves at the mercy of smugglers.

McCain may be the first and only soldier to fight for the country, so he could later destroy it.

Any question as to why we want a fence?

What we need is a systematic program that discourages illegals from coming here and employeers from hiring them.

1) Tax law - Impose a tax penalty for anyone or any business that hires illegals. Allow the use of E-verify as reasonable effort to verify legal employment.

2) Require the IRS to notify anyone who’s SSN numbers are attached to more than one job or address.

3) Require e-verify to purchase a house or rent within the US. Also require e-verify to receive ANY welfare, un-employment, food stamps or any other program in the United States.

4) Require HS level proficiency with English prior to granting any legal status in the US. Exceptions for asylum seekers.

5) Any illegal caught who has not been arrested for any other crime may voluntarily self deport within 30 days and the record will be expunged

6) Illegals caught who have been charged with other NON-VIOLENT crimes, get assigned to a work camp (see below) and then deported.

7) Illegals who are charged with violent crimes serve their sentence at hard labor (and I mean breaking rocks hard labor) and then are deported. Double sentence time for repeat offenders.

Work Camps-
Build multiple POW like camps where illegals are housed. Some work in the kitchens, some work in the farms, many work making S-CEB (Stabilized Compressed Earth Blocks). These blocks are used to build a wall along the Southern border.

The wall to be located within 100’ of the border with the base of the wall to be 15’ high and 12’ wide. The top of the wall to have an additional fence on the southern side of the fence and a road on the north side of the top of the wall. Vehicle access ramps should be built on the north side every two to three miles.

Solar powered lights and video equipment (IR and low light as well) to monitor the wall. All data for a 50 mile section brought back to a Patrol Stations (also built with S-CEBs). Build the Patrol Stations similar to old western forts. Build them to house the border patrol agents, a jail for illegals caught, supply warehouses, ranges for practice, rail station to receive supplies, wall to protect the compound, Build a rail line interconnecting all of the stations and have regular supply and illegal pickup trains running.

An Air Mobile (helicopter) unit capable of SWAT level response if needed to respond to gunfire or other hostile actions, available to cover a 200 mile zone. With 2,000 miles to cover (just a tad under that) then it would require 10 Air mobile units.

When he makes stupid comments like that it makes you wonder if he has lost his marbles or if he wants to kill CIR in the House. That way he gets to straddle the fence like he always has.

The heady gang of eight, or two, or whatever, are mad as he!! and stressed out at the young guns kicking doors down, blazing their own trail around the Duchess of Queensbury Rules imposed by the RINO’s. The Cruz types are generally refusing to sit down and shut up.

McCain in a pout posture for Hillary is telling us the base has CLOUT and he’s hot about it.

THAT’S the good news.

McCain is just showing himself as a traitor to his base of support (in general elections). He loves the applause of the Dems and the elite media. Well, he always said he knew how to reach across the aisle.

He is sinking to new depths. Soon he’ll be proud that his fatty daughter is the new Michael Moore.

So that means she keeps silent on his current positions? Is the “debt” ever repaid? If so, when?

I don’t think he ever really fought “for” our country. He crashed his planes, and then went hostage. I firmly believe he sold out our country and gave away any information he could have.

I know he was not treated badly, his father was a high ranking officer. He was too valuable.

I would bet he did everything, including selling out his fellow POW’s to get preferential treatment.

When he came out on that film, he claimed he was coerced into talking good about his captivity. I claim Bravo Sierra. He WAS treated well, while the other POW’s were not.

Time has shown the McCains (starting with HIM, not his father) are spineless-self-serving cowards.

He is a disgrace. He gets no pass from me for serving in the armed forces. I have known many idiots who were with me in the Army, and not all were patriots. Many would have sold me off for a candy bar. It is nice to wax eternal about how loyal they all were and that we were brothers in arms, but some were just downright un-trustworthy. Fact Jack.

Fortunately, Sarah Palin decides when to respond and what to say, not the rest of us.

I know I have enough to decide what I should do, and would not relish the idea of dictating to others what they must do and say and when.

She is the master of her own fate, and should make the judgments she feels appropriate. I would hope that others would grant me the same latitude.

Of all the politicians in the market today, it seems everyone feels some sense of ownership of Sarah Palin, in that they are always giving advice as to what she she be doing and saying at any given time about any given subject. Why is she the only one that garners that kind of attention and efforts to control her?

I like her judgment the way it is, and if she became the marionette of the political chattering class, then she would not be who she is, she would be the marionettes of the political chattering class.

I for one am glad she did not have a successful election with this Manchurian asshat, as she would never have been heard from again as VP under the the first Republicrat administration.

I think McCain is doing a fine job of crapping in his own nest without any encouragement, and for others to interfere would only distract from what others are saying and thinking about him now.

and btw, I think the best way to describe his captivity was the he was the “maverick” and he was the only non-patriot at the Hanoi Hilton.

Intersting response. Do you give the same latitude to all politicians?

Screw building the fence...it will never get built...and probably a waste of money of the long run...

Simple solution: Get caught crossing the border...shot on sight and toss your dead carcass over on the Mexico side of the border...with a bill to the Mexican government for the bullet and labor hauling your dead illegal ass to the border...

Get caught in country as an illegal...get sent to hard labor camp build on the border in several popular crossing sites...

Minimum 10 years hard labor...

The issue will go away within months...

Ok. liberals head will explode, but that's just a extra benefit..

John McCain,

I appreciate your military service to this country and value the fact that you brought Sarah Palin to the spotlight. Now, retire and fade away.

Most politicians are not subjected to as many micromanaged and scripted instructions for living as is Sarah Palin, so I can’t really say I would give them all a pass.

The only reason McCain gets a pass is that he condemns himself with his own words.

I’m trying to think of another politician for whom I tried to create an acceptable dialogue, but I haven’t been able to come up with any yet. Only Sarah seemed to be sent scripts for proper politicking.

Mind you, I have wanted many to shut up, but there is no point in saying that kind of thing I guess.

They were never planning to enforce the border security parts of bills.
They are also not planning to do the promised screening (what little of it there is - I wonder how many Americans an illegal can kill before being disqualified for amnesty?) either.

She campaigned for his reelection? When and where? If possible, please provide links.

Merely “endorsing” him does not count. You claimed she actively campaigned for him and I dispute that.
