Obama: Traditional journalism is dead By Jonathan Easley - 07/31/13 02:50 PM ET

President Obama weighed in on the state of journalism in an Amazon Kindle interview published Wednesday, noting the difficulties journalists face in the new media atmosphere and declaring that the “old times aren’t coming back.”

“It used to be there were local newspapers everywhere,” Obama said. “If you wanted to be a journalist, you could really make a good living working for your hometown paper. Now, you have a few newspapers that make a profit because they are national brands, and journalists are having to scramble to piece together a living, in some cases as freelancers and without the same benefits that they had in a regular job for a paper.”

The president likened the new media terrain to that of other industries that have experienced disruptive changes in recent years.

“What’s true in journalism is true in manufacturing and is true in retail,” he said. “What we have to recognize is that those old times aren’t coming back.”

“What we have to recognize is that those old times aren’t coming back.”

Which, to a Marxist, means “it’s time to look at scrapping this failing economic system and try something new”.

Well, if the press hadn’t devoted itself to being handmaidens of the Democratic Party and had actually been reporting the news, this wouldn’t have happened.

Obama got what he wanted out of them, and now they’re toast.

Uh no, Mr. Obama. One could never make a good living working for a hometown newspaper. Never has a man lived, who is as consistently wrong as you are.

If by traditional journalism he means truth, well, he’s right.

This is his passive-aggressive way of saying “traditional journalists will be killed.”

The reason traditional journalism is dead is because the purported practitioners thereof have completely forgotten, or are intentionally ignoring, the very reason for the First Amendment. Start covering the gross incompetence and execrable misdeeds of the current administration, and these “journalists” might find their services in demand once again.

I noticed that. If a Republican said something so uninformed & out of touch he/she wd be pilloried. If Obama says it, ‘journalists’ just nod their heads.

What the hell does he know about the newspaper business. Or anything else for that matter? Wait, he probably knows how to load a staple gun from tacking up community agitation flyers on utility poles.

Someday someone will bring Barry’s staple gun into the Pawn Stars shop in Vegas. Rick will have to call in a friend who knows about staple guns to verify that it was Barry’s.

By the very journalists who would step on their grandmother to get a job with the NYT.

He conned some kid into doing this. Obama has been a con man since his late teens.

And if, by traditional journalism, he meant skeptical reporters not accepting a politician’s fatuous, self-serving pronouncements at face value, he’s right.

I wish he was right, but like everything else he’s lying. As long as NYT, LAT, and the other AP/McClatchy wire commie rags continue to paper publish and the alphabet network nightly news shows continue to dominate, the old media hasn’t yet died.

When newspaper publishing ceases and the nightly news gives up the ghost, THEN the old media is dead.
