Why did Ron Paul's group single out Marco Rubio for voting against Rand Paulís aid bill?

The libertarian advocacy group that grew out of Ron Paul’s 2008 presidential campaign slammed Sen. Marco Rubio Wednesday after the Florida Republican voted against a bill to freeze aid to Egypt that had been introduced by Paul’s son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.

The younger Paul’s bill, which would have halted $1.5 billion in annual aid given to Egypt, failed Wednesday by a lopsided of 86-13 vote. The Ron Paul-inspired group, Campaign for Liberty, released a statement to its national press list after the vote, singling out Rubio and calling his decision “disgraceful.”

“Senator Rubio today stood with President Obama and Harry Reid to vote against the rule of law and the American people,” Campaign for Liberty spokeswoman Megan Stiles said in the written statement. “I fully expected (Arizona Republican) Senator McCain and (South Carolina Republican) Senator Graham to vote with Reid and Obama, as they often do, but for Senator Rubio, who bills himself as a conservative, to do so is disgraceful. Campaign for Liberty will be sure to remind the citizens of Florida that Senator Rubio stood with Obama to send their money to Egypt.”

The decision by a group associated with the Paul family to target Rubio — one of 33 Republicans who opposed the bill — is noteworthy, given that both lawmakers are rising stars in the party and are considering a presidential run in 2016. Why go after Rubio and not Ohio Republican Sen. Rob Portman, widely viewed as a potential 2016 contender as well?

The direct rebuke of Rubio from a Paul-backed group is likely to foreshadow future battles ahead, should the two tea party favorites choose to compete for the party nomination.

“Ohio Republican Sen. Rob Portman, widely viewed as a potential 2016 contender as well?”

Hahahaha. You have got to be kidding. Portman will be lucky to retain his senate seat if conservatives have anything to say about it. He is an enabler and a backstabber. He’s a backstabbing enabler.

Since when is Rubio a Tea Party favorite?

Since before he was elected, and revealed himself as a phony.

Rubio showed his cards with this immigration disaster. It is good to call him out on other votes. I was a fan. Was.

To a Democrat or Journalist (but I repeat myself), anything to the right of Stalin is a Tea-Party favorite.

Why?

Because both are looking to 2016 — and Rand wants to point out which of the Publican candidates are auditioning for the McCain / Romney role.

Yes, everybody knows what the Dem game plan is. Yet still the beltway GOP attacks their base and pushes Dem policies like amnesty.

It’s the beltway GOP lead by Boehner, Rove, etc. that is attacking conservatives. Who is stabbing the TEA Party in the back? Not the Dems. They are clear and upfront about their hatred of the TEA party. Who is refusing to engage Obama regarding the outrageous assaults by his IRS? The GOP. Again and again we see fail from the GOP. Yet you want to support these losers? Why exactly?

Have fun on the GOP plantation supporting pigs like Rubio & Christie. They will happily take your vote and stab you in the back later if the $$$ price is right.

I’d rather die on my feet politically than live on my knees supporting Rubio and Christie but whatever floats your boat I guess.

Rubio’s push for amnesty reveals his true colors. With all our financial problems aid to Egypt should be stopped.

Perhaps Marco Rubio and other advocates of foreign aid can show us where the Constitution authorizes transfer of funds from the US treasury to the coffers of foreign countries.

If anything, Rand Paul's bill doesn't go far enough. We should end foreign aid period.
