No beer summit for Christie, Paul

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) turned down an offer by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to get a beer and end a nearly week-long feud.

"I’m running for re-election in New Jersey. I don’t really have time for that at the moment," Christie said to Eric Scott on 101.5 FM's "Ask The Governor" program on Wednesday, according to the Asbury Park Press. "You know, if I find myself down in Washington, I'll certainly look him up. I don't suspect I'll be there anytime soon. I've got work to do here."

A few hours earlier, Paul said he would like to bury the hatchet and get a beer with Christie.

"We’re going to have to patch things up if we can sit down," Paul said in an interview on Fox News. "I am inviting him for a beer, anytime he would like to come down and sit down at the pub right around the corner from the Senate we’ll have a beer."

The feud started nearly a week earlier when Christie warned against a "dangerous" strain of libertarianism in the Republican Party on national security. The remark was a jab at Paul, among others.

Since then, the two lawmakers, both often mentioned as strong 2016 presidential candidates, have traded jabs on various television and radio appearances. Recently, Paul said Christie is the "king of bacon" for the amount of federal money he takes for his state. In response, Christie shot back that Paul "should start cutting the pork barrel spending he brings home to Kentucky."

Bet if Bruce Springsteen asked him, he would have cried like a little girl, and been there with bells on his toes.

Christie would make time for this if the invitation was from a Democrat.

The war on progressives starts with the war on RINOs!

Drinking a beer with a RINO/Progressive solves what?

Christie’s major donors are the neo-conservative wing of the Republican Party. No doubt he did this hit on Rand Paul as a favor to his donors. The neocons absolutely abhor Rand Paul’s neoisolationism. They fear it is getting traction with hard pressed Americans who question the value of foreign entanglements that require the sacrifice of so much material and human treasure.

Paul should have offered Christie a plate of Hostess Ding-Dongs. I'm sure he'd have made time for that.

I don't know... but I do know that ever since the GOP has basically gone full bore interventionist, it has lost the popular vote in five out of six elections...

I think it's high time we go back to what won landslides: Peace Through Strength.

Since when is a governor a lawmaker?

Kind of looks like Paul turned out to be the bigger man.

I bet if Paul said “let’s have a hotdog eating contest” he’d have time.

I don’t agree with Rand Paul on some important issues, like immigration for one, but I would choose him over some neoconservative RINO like Christie any day of the week.

There is SOME merit to the isolationist position, but I think when it goes the way of Ron Paul's “blame America first”, it goes off the reservation. With that said, a pullback in our commitments is well overdue. Remove troops from Afghanistan and insert special forces.
