With Keystone stalling, TransCanada OKs $12-billion pipeline to ship oil to east coast
National Post ^ | 8/1/2013 | M. Corey Goldman

Posted on 08/01/2013 12:36:01 PM PDT by UB355

TransCanada Corp gave the green light to building a $12-billion oil pipeline to ship Canada’s Western oil sands crude to refiners on its east coast and beyond, scaling up the project as its U.S.-bound Keystone XL line remains stalled in Washington. The Energy East pipeline project will transport crude oil to Canadian refineries and export terminals as far east as New Brunswick. The proposed pipeline system will take crude from western provinces as far east as Saint John, N.B., passing through other Canadian cities including Montreal and Quebec City. It will include some existing TransCanada pipelines between western Canada and Montreal plus new lines to be constructed to take the crude further east. Alberta Premier Alison Redford, who has been outspoken in her support of projects that increase access to new markets for her province, issued a statement saying TransCanada’s Energy East fits with the Canadian Energy Strategy. “My government made a commitment to the project as part of our efforts to build new markets and get a fairer price for the oil resources Albertans own,” Redford said. “This is truly a nation-building project that will diversify our economy and create new jobs here in Alberta and across the country.”

you're acting more American than America...

but you see, we have this "situation" down here and we're in the dark ages now.....we've been devastated by the selfish, the arrogant, and lazy and the criminal....and some freepers who though not voting for Romney would be a good thing....made them feel really really superior....

Open the Keystone to the U.S. It will decrease prices for gas, and also food prices which are higher because the stores must pay more for the food shipment due to the price of gas.

OK Union goons, why are you NOT protesting in great numbers since your good buddy odumbo just shot you in the back.

There would certainly have been numerous union jobs related the the Keystone pipeline, be they directly or indirectly.

If unions want to do something for this country, get rid of odumbo.

I think there are those of us conservatives who are confused by the voting actions of other conservatives who effectively sold America into slavery, that’s all.

This is no surprise. TransCanada has been talking about this project for months.

The nail in the coffin will be the Northern Gateway project from Hardisty to a tanker terminal in Kitimat on the Pacific Coast. Chinese tankers will be lining up all the way from Shanghai. The Chinese don't seem to be concerned about "environmental issues". They also probably don't worry about not enough jobs or the price of gasoline going up because there is more oil (I still haven't figured that one out). They just want a secure supply of energy. Go figure.

Obama was re-elected. Elections have consequences. For Americans that means: fewer jobs, more expensive energy, and dependence on dictators for oil.

“Northern Gateway project from Hardisty to a tanker terminal in Kitimat on the Pacific Coast.”

This project is intended to replace northern gateway altogether thanks to the morons in Vancouver. I couldn’t be more furious with the administration there.

PM Harper will put the Northern Gateway together one way or the other. There is so much oil in the tar sands, they need both pipelines.

Too bad for the Americans there WON'T be another one going south.

Yep - It’s definitely those conservative thugs who stood up for their principles fault, rather than those milk toast moderates who pushed an unacceptable candidate...

or, better yet, we could blame the democrats, who are actually in power right now?!?

Nah - must be the conservatives’ fault.

A few years ago, special constituents sponsored propaganda to fool readers into believing that oil prices would go way down. They lied then, wanting others to spend more money to generate more recirculating debt/revenues, and they’re lying now. They want the dollar to ride unnaturally high without necessary domestic production in the global economy, too, but it won’t for long.

Another upside not mentioned here- Alberta oil flowing to the Maritimes will displace our imports from Venezuela.

What this is going to do is eventually put a million barrels a day onto the international market. While Alberta produces more than enough oil for the energy needs of Canada it still imports quite a bit in the eastern part of the country. What comes in for the east is more than balanced by the outflow of Albertan oil to the US. This basically shuts down the need for any imported oil in Canada from now on. I think most of it was from Venezuela. Suddenly V has to sell that oil to someone else. Who? Who knows?

Romney liked the Keystone project. If you’re waiting for the “Perfect Conservative” candidate, you’ve got a long wait.

Nice straw man. I never used the word “perfect”. The word I used was “unacceptable”.
