Hamas Official Blames Morsi’s Fall on ‘Zio-American’ Scheme

If a light bulb goes out somewhere in the Middle East, someone will come forward to blame a Jewish conspiracy.

So when the Muslim Brotherhood's man is forced from office in the wake of massive Egyptian opposition rallies, it can't be due to his failings in office. Rather, Mohammed Morsi is the victim of a "Zio-American" scheme, senior Hamas official Salah Bardawil told Jordan's al-Sabeel newspaper earlier this week.

The goal is not only to wipe out the Muslim Brotherhood, Bardawil said, but to destroy Egypt "in service of the Zionist project in the region," al-Sabeel wrote.

The newspaper is considered to be an arm of Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood.

Morsi, Bardawil said, stood by Palestinians during Pillar of Defense operation aimed at ending Hamas rocket fire from Gaza last November. "President Morsi is now being punished for his heroic stance in that war and for standing by the Palestinian resistance, through the fabricating of false cases," Bardawil said, according to a translation of the al-Sabeel article by the Investigative Project on Terrorism.

There is no question that there was huge opposition to Morsi in Egypt. Most Americans and Western oriented Egyptian secularists are gratified to see the political Islamists removed from power. However this was a military coup. The US has been the paymaster and supplier to the Egyptian army. History has always held those who fund an organisation at least some resposibility its actions . Americans whatever the eventual outcome in Egypt will be held somewhat responsible.

However this was a military coup.

Not really.

A military coup tends to end with the military in charge. That is not happening in this case.

The military, by the lights of many countries, was simply doing their duty in removing a government that had become tyrannical. This is the duty of the military in Egypt. They are not becoming the government they are "hitting the reset button" and telling the country, "try again".

You can call it whatever suits you. You can say the Egyptian army created a coup or did its duty to correct an intolerable political situation albeit by force of arms. The point is that when the United States becomes entangled in the internal affairs of foreign countries either by force of arms or “aid” ( Germany, Japan, Iraq, Israel, Afghanistan, Vietnam etc) it becomes also responsible for outcomes be they good or bad. The US must also be willing to accept both the gratitude and the emnity of the peoples affected by our involvements.

Well no.

I know that is the liberal point of view but it is wrong. Just as wrong as the idea that if I sold a man a gun I am responsible for either his being able to shoot a deer to feed his family or for robbing a bank.

I am not. I gave him a tool. I did not go out into the woods with him nor was I his getaway driver. The outcome good or bad belongs to him not to me.

When you give someone tools you are not responsible for what they decide to do with them outside of very narrow exceptions.

Good post.

I think everyone has been too relectant to simply say to the modern liberal,”you are wrong, your information is wrong, your premise is wrong, and we don’t accept any of it.”

Hamas knows very well that the same people in Egypt who don’t give them money backed the removal of Morsi
