I think that the “preach it” was a compliment. What a clear mind to be 86 years old.
For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat."
I say that people should contribute to society. They should work. The parasites we have today are facilitated by government charity. I want government to back off, do less, and let people decide if they want to participate or die of hunger.
Everyone does count but the minorities want to be counted more than their fair share.
I was born in '48 and I remember a different America, but YOUR memories go back a few more years and many of those few more were adult years.
That lends an element of credibility and maturity to your comments ... which are in fact your thought process ... which is a different identification to America than me (I'll personify .. but I would hope others would recognize your worth).

As a qualifier; One of my first jobs at the age of 15 or 16 was at The Rehabilitation Center For The Aged ... a very swank old age home for Jews. (I'm not Jewish)
I can't begin to tell you the enjoyment I got from older people (this was in the early 60's) whom I would engage in conversation and just let them talk.
I learned about the holocaust and yiddish (and Yiddish funnier n' hell humor), and just a whole comprehension of life that was denied me because I was a white, middle class kid in the 60's.
It is my position a Free people can do as they wish, and deal with the consequences thereof; so I’m completely in line with your reply. The word is SHOULD or MAY; gov’t always turns into WILL or MUST or SHALL.
Unfortunately, there are those that use the Bible and/or their self-righteousness (be it on the Left or Conservative) in that charity (from the end of a gun = gov’t) is compassion and charity.
IMHO, religion, though a good moral BASE, can just as easily be used to suppress Freedom and Liberty. It is NOT the end-all.
