To quote Nancy Pelosi, we can now see what's in the Zimmerman-Martin case "without the fog of the controversy". I think the biggest lesson to be learned was from Rachel Jeantel, a friend of Trayvon Martin that testified at the trial.
Rachel Jeantel has just had her 15 minutes. Predictable packaged responses full of defensive fury were covered very well by Thomas Lifson's AT article. The left has exhausted her value by attacking and chiding all white people about the racist thoughts they have decided we are feeling. They skipped the fact-gathering and evidence stage and went right for the punishment in a fawning and self-righteous defense of someone not really under attack. I have to hand it to libs, they stand by their own and as long as anyone remembers the girl's name, she will be one of their own. Their message regarding Ms. Jeantel is
"You didn't see what you think you saw"
"You didn't hear what you think you heard"
"I'll tell you what you saw and heard"
We hardly ever bother to listen these voices anymore. We shouldn't turn away from this young woman, though, because she illustrates something so clearly. She doesn't live in "another world" as her defenders claim, she lives in a prison.
Ms. Jeantel knows who she is and has a reputation to uphold in her social circle. Like many young people these days, she doesn't realize that her personal tweets that define and characterize her are indelible. Apparently, after The Smoking Gun (TSG) tried to reach some of her twitter followers, someone, perhaps her, thought she should "scrub" her account. This is a fool's errand. TSG listed in its article on June 26 all the tweets she tried to delete. Her language is colorful....

That depends on where you live. When I lived in CA for a while was repeatedly asked which part of the South I came from. Even living an hour north of Louisville we still have a bit of that southern twang. Someone who moves in from the REGION— NorthWest IN near Chicago — stick out
We all need a bit of “the rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain”.
What is accepted in our small towns/community is different then the language of Corporate/professional world but is acceptable locally .

Yes, and Mr. Hymietown knows what a sham this mess is. Simply put, had George Zimmerman’s name been Jorge Garcia, Trayvon would be dead and forgotten. Because George’s last name is Zimmerman, the white Hispanic scheme worked, and Jesse got his Jew. In this case, the color of his skin is all in his name. Had George pulled a Geraldo or an Obama earlier in his life, we wouldn’t have suffered the displeasure of meeting Rachel Jeantel.
According to the mainstream press, Sarah Palin is an idiot, and Rachel Jeantel is a genius; a deep well of intellect that we just can’t fathom.
It’s another bellwether as to how far we have fallen.
I want to word this carefully because this is a difficult concept to explain. I used to work in a correctional facility. I classified and counseled prisoners. I held disciplinary hearings when they broke rules. I adjudicated disputes when they had grievances.
Like most correctional facilities ours was about 50% black so I had a lot of experience dealing with black men in custody.
One of the biggest problems on the outside is that they are of no use to anyone. They have no skills. No work ethic. No ambition. They have no value. Understand this, many were fine people even though they were in prison. Many I enjoyed talking to. But on the outside they had no value to anyone.
Once I was talking to a group of them about slavery and one of them said that at least as slaves someone valued them. They were worth something. This struck me as an amazing insight. Now understand, I am not trying to justify slavery. I am noting that this black man pointed out that as slaves they got sold for money. Someone valued them enough to pay for them. Now, as free men, no one would pay anything for them. They have no value.
It is tough to live your life when you know you are not an asset but a liability. Beneath all of the umma-chuckin and mau-mauing many know this. Deep down they know it.
It is sad. So sad and depressing, that I got out of that line of work as quickly as I could.

I recognize your insight. I and my wife visited Chicago from Canada years ago. I lost my way and stopped to consult a map while parked. A black gentleman pulled up beside me and flashed a badge. He smiled and said "please move on." He inferred it was not healthy. I said "you are an ambassador"- he was an off duty fireman and said "once a fireman, always a fireman". Many the time I have quelled racist thoughts because of that man.
We turned onto Jackson Blvd and kept going. Later on I mused, as I saw the run down conditions of buildings and the numerous liquor stores, what a program of trade education could do. Enough work for years for roofers, electricians, painters, and not least, day labourers.
I remember the cold harshness of working class life in my native England just after WW2. Inept youths were driven hard. That system that I detested, never gave me a chance to give up and do nothing. I now see that it was a good thing.
Excuse the ramble, but the line "no use to anybody" touched off a distant memory.
