The Real J. Edgar Hoover? (The rumor that he was gay was Communist disinformation)
American Thinker ^ | 08/03/2013 | Paul Kengor, Grove City College

Edward S. Miller, a lifetime FBI man of high rank and stature, recently passed away at the age of 89. A good man and good American, Miller, who was also a veteran of World War II (Okinawa), faithfully served his family, country, and God. He also faithfully served the agency that hired him in 1950, as well as the longtime head of that agency, J. Edgar Hoover.

I was fortunate to spend a long Saturday afternoon with Ed Miller back in March, at long last meeting him after previously only corresponding with him. (He was an alumnus of Grove City College, where I teach.) It was a time I won't forget, and Miller had some things he wanted me not to forget -- and to share with the public.

Foremost among them was his take on J. Edgar Hoover. He wanted the world to know what he insisted was the real J. Edgar Hoover -- a man totally contrary to the hysterical left-wing Hollywood portrayal that frames the FBI director as a mix between lunatic anti-communist, power-hungry Napoleonic authoritarian, and closet homosexual and cross-dresser. According to Ed Miller, none of it was true.

"He was terrific," Miller told me of Hoover, instantly knowing that such isn't the typical take on the man who was the face of the FBI for parts of six decades. During our detailed and varied conversation, few subjects lit up Miller quite like his old boss. Hoover was "great." He was "sharp." He was "absolutely brilliant." He was "wonderful."

Miller proceeded to give me example after example. Among them, here's one that will throw liberals for a loop, clashing as it does with their ideological prejudices:

I actually heard two KGB agents who helped spread those stories. The reason was simple. J. Edgar Hoover was the main force opposing them inside the country.

They went into some detail and it was obvious to them that their job would be ridiculously easy. The American media just couldn’t wait to attack Hoover in any way they could.

Commies find their biggest opponents in the other country and go after them. North Korea’s most hated South Korean is not the President, it usually a defense chief or something

Deja vie (sic!) (sic = intentional, Capt. Obvious) all over again! There was a fool here sometime a long time ago, who when I suggested that the proper term is 'pederast', argued with me that pederast = pedophile (it does in one of its two meanings), and that 'gay' is in fact the proper term to describe homosexuals.

If you are old enough, you'll remember when during the 1980s, lesbos started adopting the term 'gay' for their carpet munching activities, and the male pederasts loudly objected to that attempt to invade their monopoly. In time, they lost, and the fools who accept this and other such euphemisms without question, now refer to both lesbos and poofters as 'gay'. You cannot argue, sorry, that 'gay' as referred to Hillary and her kind, dates back to the XIXth (sic) century.

RE: Did you get spanked for changing the original title and violating the forum rules?

Not sure what the rule is. Sometimes, the mod allows editorializing placed in parenthesis, sometimes, they take it out.

I don’t think it has anything to do with my use of the word — gay. Everyone today knows what it means IN CONTEXT.

J. Edgar Hoover rejected additional powers which FDR wanted him to take during World War II saying America does not need a Gestapo.

He was the rare type of truly devoted public servant which comes around once in a generation.

Hoover didn't discriminate among white men or black men. He wanted good men. He wanted men who were good for his agency and his country.

I attended a class by W. Cleon Skousen once when I was young. Skousen, who authored the epic book The Naked Communist had spent a good part of his career working for Hoover. He had nothing but respect for him.

J.Edgar Hoover was not fond of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and never trusted his motives, another reason the left loathed him. But he resolved to bust the Klan after those church bombings which killed the little black girls in the 1960s.

It was Hoover who sent FBI agents to infiltrate and bust the KKK once and for all. His program was so successful that the FBI continued it long after Hoover's death. His successors were glad to take credit for the results.

Sometime in the late 1980s the program finally ended because it was discovered that the only thing keeping the KKK going were the dues from the FBI infiltrators.

Unlike the current occupant of the White House.

Once you use the euphemism, you have lost the argument before it started. Why? Because who, what ‘good person’, could be against ‘gaiety’, ‘choice’, ‘social justice, ‘peace’?! Are you for war? The Left uses the language skillfully, and the Right is as always clueless. Don’t kid yourself, the front of the culture war is in the sphere of language. Because language affects, defines even, perceptions!

Hoover hated Commies.

That is enough for me.

I remember G. Gordon Liddy talking reverently about him. That reinforces my respect for Hoover.

Can you imagine what Hoover would have done to expose Obozo??

I think Clint got in right in his movie and there were plenty of witnesses and photos of his almost spousal relationship with his male assistant.

Problem was, there was something to spread! and the FBI should never have been formed at all.

Yep. His apologists can rationalize it anyway they want, but his relationship with Tolson was unnatural.

He would be sick if he could see the cancer infesting our White House and Federal Government today.

I have always considered J. Edgar Hoover a hero—who rounded up the gangsters, rolled up the Nazi spy rings and emasculated the Communist Party, USA.

I also have a very difficult time writing off all the stories as total fabrications.

The stories about Hoover's supposed homosexuality are a total fabrication. His legacy has become the victim of the Big Lie technique--a falsehood repeated over and over until it comes to be widely believed.

Eisenhower was so concerned about homos in governments and their vulnerability to be blackmailed—the ‘lavender scare—that in ‘53 he got Congress to pass a law prohibiting homosexuals from federal employment.
An irony was that one of the prime movers behind it was McCarthy’s head commie-hunter, a youthful Roy Cohn who was probably carrying on with another investigator, David Schine. Cohn died in the ‘80s at age 59 of AIDS.
So the more things may seem to change, the more they remain the same. But yeah you’re right: the fags and dykes are crawling out of the woodwork now.
