New jobs disproportionately low-pay or part-time
Associated Press ^ | Aug. 3, 2013 4:20 PM EDT | Paul Wiseman

The 162,000 jobs the economy added in July were a disappointment. The quality of the jobs was even worse.

A disproportionate number of the added jobs were part-time or low-paying—or both.

Part-time work accounted for more than 65 percent of the positions employers added in July. Low-paying retailers, restaurants and bars supplied more than half July’s job gain. …

Analysts say some employers are offering part-time over full-time work to sidestep the new health care law’s rule that they provide medical coverage for permanent workers. (The Obama administration has delayed that provision for a year.) …

Gee....it only took five years of Obama’s lying and bungling the economy for the AP to start catching on. They had to get him re-elected first.

I noticed something on Huckabee tonight.

The McDonalds worker wasn’t complaining about only getting 20 hours per week. She was complaining about not making $15 per hour. If she worked 40 hours she’d make nearly the same as if she earned $15 an hour.

With the old media gradually dieing, I can't wait to have a former newsreader or semi-illiterate journalist to hand me my burger at the drive-through window.

bump

they don’t mind getting few hours because they are lazy

if this was a $15 an hour job, these are not the people who would be hired to fill them

I remember (again....) during the Reagan years the media would complain that most of the new jobs being created were McJobs, this is only when the "news" media actually admitted to jobs being created.

Seems the other way around these days,

Repub Prez: McJobs,
Dem Prez: (good, but non-existent) shovel-ready jobs.

At least the AP is posting real news for once (is there a blue moon?). They're probably hoping no one will notice this report.

Mike Rowe hit a good point as well when he was talking about blue collar jobs that I know is true from personal experience.

He said if you show up early, work late and volunteer for the nasty grunt work, you’ll end up running the place.

I know its true because that is how I always ended up in supervisory positions. I’ve just always had a curiosity about how machines work, why they work that way and how do I fix it if they start doing something wrong.

The price of labor may be down, but take heart. In Obama’s version of America, the price of everything else is up.

From the article; "Faster growth would fix things," Swonk says. "That's the magic fairy dust."

Well I guess we'll just have to order a case of that there "faster growth magic fairy dust"!

Government does not create growth, business does. All government can do is destroy growth or get out of businesses' way.

That's elephant in the room.

Corporate America and the two political parties created this new society of burger flippers. Once we globalized labor and ivy league universities train future CEO that patriotism is stupid and workers are commodities (ala status of a condom to be used and disposed) Main Street America went down hill. So where are the new high paying jobs that NAFTA, WTO, free trade, etc etc etc suppose to replace all those obsolete high paying union or nonunion manufacturing jobs lost??!!!! More H-1B guest tech workers and now those high tech jobs don’t look so plenty anymore??? Huh???? Yep hi tech can sell smartphones for $ 300 but made in China for $ 5. Swear the profit margins are very tough while they pocket $ 295 for the small enclave of workers in Silicon Valley (the only place other then Wash DC real estate is booming and people are willing to eat out and pay more taxes). What a PR spin, do they think everyone in America is six years old believing in their BS. Economics based on small core of innovators making billions vs economy based employing tens of thousands making billions, that will be the division in the next American Civil War. Keep this up and revolution is around the corner. Ain’t going to be pretty for the liberal PC class, free trader class, and their allies.
