Is the Republican Party truly the party of limited government, less spending, less taxes and less regulation?
Thats what Dalton Mayor David Pennington, who plans to challenge incumbent Gov. Nathan Deal in the 2014 GOP primary, says he intends to find out.
Pennington found a receptive audience for his message of low taxes and limited government on Thursday in Chatsworth when he spoke to about two dozen people during a meeting of the Murray County Tea Party Patriots.
Pennington said Republicans have controlled the governors office and the General Assembly for a decade now but have done little to cut the size and scope of the state government. In fact, he said, they have supported several proposals that have increased the size of government.

The latest poll I saw shows Pennington with 8 percent and Deal with 50 percent. But the primary is still almost a year away.

Actually, I think it’s more a case of the GOP being afraid of being called racist if they oppose anything advanced by Obama.
Also, they kinda like the perceived power over the great unwashed (that’s us, BTW).

No, not at the national level and not at the state level. And it's proven that for several decades now. Seven presidential elections have come and gone since the GOP last offered a conservative presidential nominee. The GOP now is the party of Democrat-lite, the party which taxes, spends and regulates just like the Democrats but occasionally looks up from the feeding trough with a slightly guilty expression on it's face.
And it's gone far beyond taxes, spending and business regulation at this point. The current surveillance state in which all Internet communications by any US citizen are recorded and stored for review by the National Security Agency is a product of both Republicans and Democrats.
