Legislator to tea party: Get your guns ready for economic collapse
http://blog.al.com ^ | August 1, 2013 | Cassie Fambro

Washington state legislator Rep. Matt Shea (R) says preparation is crucial to get ready for what he calls "the inevitable collapse" of the US economy.

The Self-Reliance Rally event at an Idaho State Park had several speakers encouraging attendees to prepare by gathering arms and ammunition and considering forming militias.

"When it happens, we need to look at this as a opportunity, not a crisis," Shea said. "Who's job is liberty? That's our job."

Shea told the crowd to stock up on ammunition, stay in shape, practice shooting, learn self defense and special tactics.

He related a story from when he was in the military where a superior officer told him to remember an important lesson.

"Be prepared at any given moment to give up your job to do what is right," he said. "You have to stand up for what is right - even if it means you have to stand up to your government," Shea's superior officer allegedly told him.

Well.

If we would bring back jobs from China, then there wouldn’t need to be any mess.

So.

How about it? American jobs, for a change?

The entire article is short....
Here’s more:

preparation is crucial to get ready for what he calls "the inevitable collapse" of the US economy.

It's always a good idea to be prepared. But the economy may not collapse at once, collapse everywhere, or all collapse very soon.

The economy certainly seems to have collapsed in Detroit and some other cities are on the brink. Will the US economy collapse everywhere, and do it soon?

Rome has been in decline since about 180 A.D. and it's still a nice place to visit on vacation.

An excellent observation. The housing bubble collapsed in the same geographic order it started here in Silicon Valley: furthest away from the big cities first (Salinas, Sacramento suburbs), then worked its way in. People paying attention in San Jose had many months, maybe more than a year, of watching Sacramento deflate to know they still had time to get out at the top.

Google it. The manufacturing jobs are already returning back to our shores... but probably not the way you'd like it. ==> Robots. 3D printing. And USA will probably be the biggest petroleum exporter in the world within 10 years.

That's where the jobs will be...

A lot of people think we will wake up one day and be living in a dystopia...

Unless there is a serious black swan event like a nuke going off in NYC or DC or both, our "collapse" will be a slow death spiral...month in, month out slowly choking on our own cultural and spiritual death and failed DC policies until we are a mere real banana republic...living a second world status

...and it will still be Bush's fault...

I am glad to hear someone in a position of authority who is not afraid to tell us what we having been thinking for some time now. That we are not going to be able to turn this country around with rah-rah rallies and letter-writing to Congress people who have nothing but contempt for the American people.

What makes people think we can let this country go down the tubes and then get it back easily. We need to fight for what we believe in.

No expert here, but my guess is he is saying “positive attitude”, prayer, etc. and also if things do come to it, perhaps a barter system will be just what’s needed.

Americans who believe in what is right will figure out a way...and come out better on the other side.

I heard Rush say it in his interview with Greta, something about how Obama has destroyed the American psyche.

It’s time to rebuild, to think positive and encourage doing what is right.

Those most responsible are the elitist in this country. You think they don't have nice villas in other countries to escape to? Think Jon Corzine. I'll bet he has a beautiful estate in the Riviera, right next door to Ken Lay.

There’s a Great Storm coming you can feel it and the great cities of Europe are on the edges of it now, soon it will consume them.

Its your choice you can prep or you can stand around on a bridge waiting for FEMA to bring you a bottle of water, a MRE, a warm blanket and a kiss for your boo-boo and maybe you can even get your picture as you stand there on the national news.

Any one with half a brain can look around and see for themselves what is happening right before their eyes.

So listen to what the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it. NIV Proverbs 22:3

One of the things Selco covers in his blog was the fact that many will not accept a breakdown is occurring even as they watch it happening before their eyes. Why don’t they realize it? It’s caused by a condition called ‘Normalcy Bias’ a mental state people enter when facing a disaster.

It causes people to underestimate both the possibility of a disaster occurring and its possible effects. This often results in situations where people fail to adequately prepare for a disaster, and on a larger scale, the failure of governments to include the populace in its disaster preparations. The assumption that is made in the case of the normalcy bias is that since a disaster never has occurred then it never will occur. It also results in the inability of people to cope with a disaster once it occurs. People with a normalcy bias have difficulties reacting to something they have not experienced before. People also tend to interpret warnings in the most optimistic way possible, seizing on any ambiguities to infer a less serious situation.

A good article on ‘Normalcy Bias’ is on our own ChocChipCookies Blog The Survival Mom:

http://thesurvivalmom.com/2010/12/29/normalcy-bias/

You either prepare and stand on your own beholden to no one or you become dependent on others to provide your basic needs and become their ‘serf’. Me I don’t want to be beholden to anyone for providing what is needed for me and mine. I certainly don’t want to have to kiss some ‘gubberment’ third class bureaucratic to try and coax some help from them, I don’t want some ‘jack booted’ thug herding me in line and telling me where to stand, sit, eat or sleep. And last but not least I don’t want to be shut up in with a bunch of ‘zombies’ and have to worry about not only trying to get basic necessities but having to fight to keep what I manage to get.

There is a Great article in my Preparedness Manual on building your on Bug Out Bag titled: A Highly-Mobility 72 Hour Kit-by Ward Dorrity. You can download the whole manual at:

http://tomeaker.com/kart/Preparedness1j.pdf NOTE! THIS IS A FREE DOWNLOAD. I DO NOT MAKE ONE CENT OFF MY PREPAREDNESS MANUAL!

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, cash (I myself have been putting up change for the past few years both for the metal content and the fact that using change places to make what purchases you can will move you down the the list of possible marks during shtf), tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Again I like to recomend FReeper’s ChocoChipCookie Blog The Survival Mom (Please Blog Police let this one slide!) Where you can get lots of useful information like:

http://thesurvivalmom.com/2011/11/20/8-morale-boosters-for-any-worst-case-scenario/

http://thesurvivalmom.com/2010/02/02/survival-priorities-the-rule-of-three/

And More

Also there is Ferfal’s Blog a survivor of Argentina’s first collapse:

http://ferfal.blogspot.com/

And there is Selco’s Blog a Bosnian War survivor at:

http://shtfschool.com/

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger. Underestimation can be fatal.”

Well, about the only way you can tell for sure is that with just a minimum of press, the government quickly comes out to announce that there is nothing to see here, please move along. They just seem to be incapable of shutting up when they get caught doing something dubious.

Personally, I can see why FEMA wants to requisition emergency supplies. It’s sort of their job. But why they would want so much and so fast, without any real disaster pending, is that some bureaucrat noticed that the expiration dates of a lot of their emergency supplies had come and gone.

You figure that there was a major resupply right after Katrina in 2005, but that probably happened 7 years ago.

I think we'll probably wind up filing this right next to the Billion Bullet Purchase of last Spring.

Well, if the DHS didn't get the ammo, and we're winding down the war, where is it going? ANY ammo has been pretty scarce on the shelves around here, popular calibers (.223, .308, .30-06, .270, .22, .45, .38, .357, 9mm, 7.62X39) haven't been on store shelves in eight months.
