[history]
NBC 5 Investigates has learned the accused Fort Hood shooter Maj. Nidal Hasan receives extraordinary treatment in jail while victims of the attack argue they have been forgotten and mistreated by the U.S. Army.
While a prisoner awaiting trial, Hasan is ferried by helicopter nearly every day, complete with an additional helicopter escort and security detail, for the 20-mile journey between the Bell County Jail and Fort Hood, courtesy of the United States Army and American taxpayers.
The Army told NBC 5 Investigates the daily helicopter rides are necessary because the jail does not have the proper facilities for Hasan to work on his legal defense and transporting Hasan by car creates additional security concerns. Fort Hood does not have its own jail, so Hasan is being held at the Bell County Jail under a special Army contract.

By the way, the response from the prosecutor in response to adding the soldier’s suicide to the death toll was “We can not make a comment or respond to this out of the respect for Gen. Hasan’s legal process.”
I forgot to add that in the original post.

Who orders these things? Can they occur on autopilot? Is it at the discretion of the judge, the base commander, or directed from much higher up—say the Muslim-in-Chief, or VJ, his advisor?

GODDD!!! I hope and pray that these victims families WAKE UP and realize OBAMA will not do anything but to protect HIS PEOPLE. God this makes me angry if true but no one should be shocked if it is. Will just wait unless they change their minds and will not load the story.

Well to be fair the news just went off and it was the top story...the report is probably being put into file format as we speak. They had been tweeting about it and doing promos of it during the game. Trust me...when you watch this video...you are going to see red even more than you probably are right now.

Be nice if somebody did us all a favor and offed the guy. Sounds like it’s nearly impossible to get the death penalty in the military no matter what you do, harder than civilian based on an article today.
The military sure isn’t what it once was.

They actually point out in the story that civilian contractors have it way harder than actual military and that their pay would have been stopped immediately.

Takes the privileges of citizenship or the rights of the accused to a whole new level. The privilege isn't citizenship or, I would argue the accused [remember Zimmerman?]. So then, that leaves us with very little to work on: military? No, his actions, aside from being terrorism, are capital and we have people who weren't involved in obvious murder receive poor treatment [remember Murtha's Marine incident?]. No, what this leaves us with is really only one thing: he is a member of a protected religion.

Nope. Used to work for NBC. This is a story one of the affiliates did that will get BIG notice and (most important to NBC) the network will have to spend minimal dough to air it. The network then will, of course, take full credit for it. Regardless of how it seems sometimes, networks are less about agenda and more about ratings when an affiliate hands them a story on a silver platter.

Nope. See #41. Networks drool when an affiliate does a bombshell story they can air pretty much verbatim (in other words, free).
