‘There’s Plenty of Money, It’s Just the Government Doesn’t Have It’ — Congressman Keith Ellison
Pajamas Media ^ | 08/05/2013 | Walter Hudson

Posted on 08/05/2013 8:27:46 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Urban legend holds that Willie Sutton told a reporter that he robbed banks “because that’s where the money is.” Not to be outdone, Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison recently made a similar observation. CNS News reports:

Ellison was discussing his “Inclusive Prosperity Act” measure at the July 25th Progressive Democrats of America roundtable in Washington.

“The bottom line is we’re not broke, there’s plenty of money, it’s just the government doesn’t have it,” Ellison continued, “The government has a right, the government and the people of the United States have a right to run the programs of the United States. Health, welfare, housing – all these things.”

The “Inclusive Prosperity Act” would levy a sales tax on the trading of stocks, bonds and derivatives.

We can induce from Ellison’s comments that he believes the government cannot go broke so long as money remains in the private sector to be taken. In other words, your money does not belong to you. The state allows you to keep what you have and reserves the right to seize it for redistribution.

Benito Mussolini would be proud. The Italian dictator who coined the term fascism defined it as a system of government where the state exists for its own sake, subordinating the individual. Like Ellison, Mussolini spoke of the state as though it were a person, elevating its “will” above that of the individual. Ellison ascribes “rights” to the government — to “the people of the United States” — while denying the property right of individuals.

Having apparently learned nothing from his hometown of Detroit, Ellison proceeds as though the trading of stocks, bonds, and derivatives will be unaffected by his new sales tax. Even if individual traders continued their transactions unabated, the tax would remove an estimated $300 billion annually from the private economy. In private hands, that $300 billion gets deployed for an economic return. In Ellison’s hands, it will be deployed for a political return.

A profound cowardice underlies Ellison’s position. Like the constituency he hopes to expand, Ellison seeks to avoid the risk-taking which those he would fleece must face for a chance at profit. While investors proceed without any guarantee that their effort will yield a return, Ellison proposes to feed off their attempt even before success is achieved. Transcending the evil of the income tax, which punishes citizens for their audacious efforts to survive and thrive, Ellison’s “Integrated Prosperity Act” seeks to tax citizens for merely trying to earn something, regardless of whether they actually do.

He might as well tax breathing. Oh, wait

Upside: it’s not a wholsale confiscation that’s being proposed... but that’s about it.
Downside: this will just increase tax-complexities.

Government wastes 90% of what they’re getting now.

The roads are falling apart but we’re building some beautiful bike lanes and trails.

Ellison sounds like a very intelligent congressman. It’s no wonder his intelligent constituents elected him. After all, he’s the first Muslim to be elected to Congress. Given his constituency that isn’t hard to understand.

He has the same stupid, reactionary, zero-sum-game thinking that all Leftists have.

What’s dangerous is that he is in a position of power, and a large number of voters have sought to keep him there.

I've said this too: that the government won't run out of money until it has stolen every last saved penny in every bank account in the USA.

Kongressthief Ellison is just making it official (or at least trying to)

Let’s look at facts.

Keith Ellison is from Detroit
Keith Ellison is a Muslim
Keith Ellison is a racist.
Keith Ellison belongs to the Congressional Black Caucus.

Now what do these facts tell us.

Keith Ellison hasn’t got sense enough to pour piss out of a boot with a hole in the toe and directions in the heel.

This Marxist Muslim moron apparently can’t grasp the concept that the thieving government has already stolen from the earnings of those still unborn.

This is the view of the state though few really want to admit it.

RE: He’s the first Muslim to be elected to Congress.

Ellison is not only the first Muslim to be elected to the Congress. He is also the first African American elected to the House from Minnesota.

If you think Ellison is bad, you should’ve seen the previous representative from this district.

Michael Moore once said that corporations are sitting on trillions of dollars in cash, and that this cash is a “national resource” which should be spent and invested. He opposes corporations “hoarding” their money. Which in his opinion, I’m sure is an ill gotten gain, as opposed to earnings coming from running the business.

Which is he?

Is he an African or an American?

Am I a German-American or an American?

This hyphenated crap is proving that the trite saying ‘diversity is our strength’ is nothing but a load of manure.

Well, let’s start making this situation right by confiscating all of his assets and giving them to the government.

Democrats never gave up on slavery, they now just want to make working taxpayers slaves in support to them (the ruling class) and their constitutents.

Michael Moore is a scumbag who soaks up taxpayer subsidies then brags about the profit he makes off his “non profits”.

Most recently he’s getting HUD money to fix up old theaters and bragging that he pays his employees a living wage and gives them full health coverage.

The reality is that his theaters only have 1 or 2 full time employees and are primarily staffed by volunteers too stupid to know he’s screwing them and he’s already been forced to withdraw movies because Hollywood studios have threatened to sue him for running their movies without paying for them.

No Marxist, fascist or Nazi could have set it better. We are all just “tools” of the state and our property, money and even our lives all belong to the government who in its benevolence lets us keep a little of it. The God given inalienable rights of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness are meaningless to these people.

OK, if the govt needs more money, then get more, faster printing presses.

That’s where it comes from, right? Then they give the money to the usual (EBT, etc.). May need to tax them, or don’t give them so much. If the govt needs more money, quit giving it away.

Print more, and keep it. Scrooge McDuck’s money bin.

No reasonable man having read Chief Justice Robert's opinion in Obamacare can confidently deny the truth of that statement.

You mentioned God there, but the reality is that most of the people in control of America now have no such belief in God. To them, government IS their God. That is why America is circling the toilet and about to be flushed.

We have allowed this BS to grow and continue for far too long without speaking up, taking a stand and STOPPING IT. It’s way too late now.

MM is a 1% - a hypocrite, and a very unattractive one at that. He has scads of money, properties, etc.

He is going up against divorce and is trying to buy off his wife so that his wealth will not go public. He is just a fat slob hypocrite.

But, we knew that already. He just doesn't want his 'peeps' to know about it. Might be the end to his gravy train.
