A wrongful death suit filed by the parents of black teenager Trayvon Martin who was shot to death by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman has been settled, according to documents filed in a Florida court yesterday.

Trayvon Martin's parents have settled a wrongful-death claim for an amount thought to be more than $1 million against the homeowners association of the Sanford subdivision where their teenage son was killed.

And the lawyer will get at least 40% of that settlement...

The remainder will go towards crack and 40's.

If the homeowners association had seen to it that the video cameras were working, there would have been no lawsuit and St. Trayvon’s parents wouldn’t have collected a dime. When the cop lied to Zimmerman and told them there was a tape of the incident, Zimmerman believed him and was relieved that he was in the clear.

I'm not generally a fan of the lawyers in these tort cases, but in this one I'd rather they get the money than the sleazy parents. That leaves the parents $300k each, or $170k after taxes. That's still far more than their loser son was worth after they ignored him for 17 years, but at least it won't change their lives or last very long.

Eighteen months ago Trayvon was just another thieving teenage gangsta.

Now he’s a Saint and founder of a multi-million dollar enterprise.

There are separate association and individual homeowner policies. The HOA covers the structure, so that if a home or group of homes burns or otherwise have a failure, the development is not scarred with derelict buildings.

The insurer must have felt a million bucks was a “minimax” decision, basically limiting the maximum payout. Legal costs could have exceeded a million in a circus trial. I think they made the right decision.

“Trayvon reaches from the grave and robs these people one more time.”

He had to die to do it... at what temperature do Skittles melt? I know when tea boils.

This makes me sick to my stomach. Too bad they couldn’t have been better parents while Trayvon was alive, and they wouldn’t have to be extorting money now that he is dead. I hope George Zimmerman wins a multimillion dollar lawsuit against the lying media.

“I think they made the right decision.”

They retreated instead of standing their ground.

So much for confidential too

There are no confidential settlements in Florida. They are one of the few states making such a law against them.

It was likely one of their insurance companies.

One of their insurers (Travelers) did fight the suit. But, they withdrew and made a statement they were not party to the settlement.

My guess is one of the other insurers rolled over, thinking it was riskier to fight. I'm not sure what they think now.

where will the HOA get the money if the homeowners all refuse to pay up?

One of the HOA's insurance companies paid it. The homeowners may have higher premiums now, or may be going without liability insurance altogether because they can't get it at a reasonable price.

See , the "PACKAGING of Trayvon™ " assures financial security for the mother who gave him up at age3 ,
and the father who didn't realize that Trayvon™ was missing for 2 days.

I wonder if the step-mother (who you never heard about) who raised Trayvon™ for 13 years , ever received any settlement money .
She provided a stable envireonment for Trayvon™ , and he was a normal middle-class kid then.

Then poppa got a girlfriend , and parental supervision dropped off the priority list ,
and Trayvon™ was left on his own , his choice of friends , and his peer group ethics .
The family didn't even know about the school suspensions, or reasons for the suspensions.
An example of real role models for the black community issues with their youths .
The reasons why you didn't hear a lot about the family social background ; because ' Team Crump' had numerous attorneys, publicists ,
and a politically active advertizing exectutive directing your attention despite the social issues .
Also , there was a "social engineering lawyer" who 'sanitized' and 'homogenized' the negative family issues,
and helped to make them the caring , loving black family that you saw on television.
It was all choreographed and orchestrated and made for television and the media as "The PACKAGE "!
The only missing piece was the entry of the Black Grievance race baiters and their followers.
