Limbaugh's Favorite Republicans? Those Who Are 'Fearless'
CNS News ^ | 8/5/2013 | Susan Jones

Posted on 08/06/2013 4:23:21 AM PDT by IbJensen

(CNSNews.com) - Asked which Republicans he admires, conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh named two of them.

"I admire any who are bold enough and brave enough to speak about what they truly believe," Limbaugh told Fox News's Greta Van Susteren in an interview that aired on Friday.

"(Sen.) Ted Cruz is one. Sarah Palin is another -- any of them who are fearless and have the courage of their convictions and have no compunction about saying it. They're not embarrassed of themselves. They're not insecure. They firmly believe what has to be done and are willing to stand behind it. Those are the people I admire."

Sen. Cruz, a Texas Republican, said last week that the House of Representatives should pass a continuing resolution funding the federal government except for Obamacare, which he says should be explicitly defunded, even if it leads to a government shutdown.

As Cruz told Glenn Beck last week, "There are a lot of Republicans in Washington who are scared. They're scared of being beaten up politically."

Limbaugh told Van Susteren that President Obama is still trying to sell Obamacare to the public, even though it's the law of the land, because he and his fellow Democrats are worried about the 2014 midterm election:

"Now, what Obama and the Democrats really want, what they're salivating about now is winning the House in 2014. If they get that, hold the Senate, there's no such thing as a lame duck second term. They won't even need a Congress. All they are is going to be a rubber stamp. Whatever Obama wants to do the last two years, just signs it and does it and Congress rubber stamps it and we've got it going. He can't be stopped. That's why they want it.

"But they remember 2010. So he's out there trying to change public opinion on health care so that it doesn't replicate in 2014 what happened in 2010 in the midterms. He cannot afford for a bunch of Tea Party people, a bunch of anti-Obama voters to show up in (2014), voting against him and holding the House for the Republicans and maybe winning the Senate for the Republicans. That's one reason he's campaigning."

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) told NBC's "Meet the Press" that he appreciates Sen. Cruz's passion for defunding Obamacare: "I'd love to do it, too," Chambliss said. "But shutting down the government and playing into the hands of the president politically is not the right thing to do. Plus it's going to do great harm to the American people if we pursue that course. We've been there, it didn't work."

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), appearing with Chambliss, called Cruz "extreme" on the subject of defunding Obamacare.

"I can just tell you Senator Cruz is part of a few extreme people in the Senate when it comes to this subject, calling for shutting down the government of the United States, even shutting down the American economy to make his political point. That's not the right way to go."

House Republican leaders (none of whom are conservative, as Limbaugh told Van Susteren) oppose a government shutdown.

"I think most conservatives, most on the left, Republicans, Democrats alike say we shouldn't be for a government shut down," House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) told "Fox News Sunday."

"What we are trying to do is fund the government and make sure also that we take away the kinds of things that are standing in the way of a growing economy, a better health care. And all the while keeping our eye focused on trying to deal with the ultimate problem, which is this growing deficit."..

Shut the damned thing down!

These weasels have had years to figure out how to derail obamacare and they have proven themselves utterly worthless and without any value to this nation. Rather, they join Obozo in complicity.

We always send young men to war because they have the courage that a worthless Congress can only dream about.

Obamacare is a clear example of this mentally ill fool's entire Presidency! unclear, confusing and Wrong. Unfortunately, we have a majority of Congressional imbeciles that either abet or obfuscate the evil being thrust down American's throats. Time to vomit it up and change course immediately. Don't wait until the entire nation looks like Detroit!

All the truly Conservative Americans here believe the same thing.

I am STILL amazed that Palin has NOT been able to parlay that into a stronger position for herself.... by that I mean... the position of a serious and seriously determined Presidential hopeful.

Why she was SO quiet during the last national election and why she did not do more for Coservativism generally during that campaign, is still confusing to me.

All the uninformed American people know to do is reelect their own congressman. Sad but true; the American people lack the decisiveness to be self-governing.

“Fearless Republicans”: Now it’s a pretty short, almost nonexistent list. But McPain says we can put Palin on it if we wish.

WE wouldn't be shutting down the government. HE would because Obeycare funding was omitted. HIS choice. Is that difficult to explain ?

Secondly, shutting the government down DID work. It forced Bubba's hand, AND resulted in a pick-up of seats in the following election, despite what you might hear. All the Republicans remember is the lashing they took from the media. Grow some balls for God's sake.

Your statement is true.

Many of those who get to the polls are trucked there by the Democrat Party. The evil socialists want to make this nation completely unlivable and much easier for them to seize all power. While this party is inherently evil, the Republican Party is complicit in their inane search for that idiocy called bi-partisanship.

Bipartisanship is another term for insanity, or let the enemies of America win again.

Rush Goes On the Record with Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren December 15, 2011

Who is most conservative? You know, Romney and Gingrich are fighting it out. And all kinds of things are surfacing, such as Romney -- we had a tape from 2002 the other day on the radio program where Romney campaigning for governor of Massachusetts said, "I don't want anyone to be mistaken. I am not a part of Republican. I am a moderate." Okay, fine. People said, "Rush, he's running for election in Massachusetts. He's got to do that." That's my point. If you are going to be what you think you have to be here one day based on where you are, and here another day, then people are going to question if you are genuine. Then he comes out with this global warming thing, (paraphrasing) "Yeah, I believe it's getting warmer, and yeah, I think man is causing it." That was in answer to a planted question at a town hall meeting or press conference he had. And it was some new castrati liberal guy who got in there and asked the question. And I am sure Romney thought he gave the best answer he could give, given that he's in the Northeast, New Hampshire I think he was. And then Newt writes a book in 2009 praising Andy Stern of the SEIU, the greatest president ever is FDR. So a lot of things are shaking out here.

On the other hand, I know that I get calls on my radio show, I talk to people. A lot of people are hoping that Rick Perry catches fire again or Bachmann or Santorum catch fire and come alive, because perception is that there is no doubt concern about the conservative credentials. There is no doubt that every day either of those three would be fighting for the country and what they believe in exactly as they are campaigning for it. There isn't a qualification of belief over here or change because of where you happen to be or what the audience is or who the audience is.

The Republican Congress was elected in 2010 to stop commie care, now we get from Boner nothing we can do it’s the law of the land! We can’t shut down the government the media won’t like us! Then in Senate McCain & Graham say it’s time to make agreements on immigration reform and compromise on other issue with democrats (always moving left towards them never them moving to our position). I really don’t see where the Republicans support our positions, all we get come election time is you need us or it could be worse! It never fails after the election we hear how they’ve matured and moving ever leftward because they’ve grown and seen the light amid fawning press coverage.
The party’s over turn out the lights! Let them seek votes and money from their true friends the left!

Why she was SO quiet during the last national election and why she did not do more for Coservativism generally during that campaign, is still confusing to me.

The last cycle was the consultant's election'. The Romney machine hates Palin and wanted nothing to do with her. Notice she was completely absent from the Romney convention. Originally, Palin talked about setting up this big convention event across the street...then nothing. The party people left out some of our finest...Palin, West and others, and featured the ones they want to promote...Christie, Rubio, Martinez, etc. That was the GOPe in action (or should we call it GOPe inaction!). Palin had little role to play, other than promoting candidates like Cruz and Fischer. Plus, I don't think she felt particularly compelled to go out and make public statements backing Romney and more than she had to because she didn't want to tie herself to another failed moderate.

SARAHPAC (I think that was the name) was very effective. Influencing who gets the nod to get on the ballot was a strong position for her. She kicked Rove’s ass.

I know all this.

What I meant was, why didn't she hold their feet to the fire and force discussion on what was relevant....

Possibly, she just didn't want to diminish Romney's chances... such as they were or to in the process, make herself look bad.

Etiquette... and choosing her own fight for a later time. It's too bad because Palin has a lot of political capital she has never cashed-in to date.

Congress controls the purse strings.

What's so difficult about defunding ObamaScary and yet continuing to fund the government?

Can someone tell me why no one besides Cruz is promoting this course of action? Am I missing something here?

We need a rise in the Tea Party! Maybe its time to go into the Sons of Liberty Mode! (The fellows who pulled off the Tea Party in 1774) Liberty trees should stand in every city and town! Liberty poles with Liberty caps should decorate the town square. The IRS muted the tea Party, and the MSM libeled them, even the GOP were a bit ashamed of them and saw them as un-controlable. We need more Tea Party/Libery people in Congress! Sarah Palin needs to run for Senate and speak out on the Senate floor! We need more Rands, more Lees, more Ted Cruz’s & more in the Governor’s mansions and mayors of cities! Now is the time to pitch these patriots and support them! They will face IRS problems and maybe drone strikes—but it must be done if we are to throw off the yoke of tyrany.

She is VERY cautious, in my opinion, to pick real winners. Not just those who can win, but those who will actually be winners for the people...like Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, etc. To be honest, it takes a while. You cannot always trust what they tell you. You have to have a special sensor that can detect fraud. We’ve all been burned by the dozens of “tea party” candidates that turned out to be anything but....and immediately AFTER taking office. No, I don’t fault her for being a LOT more cautious because we don’t have time to do this over and over. We are running out of time, so we have to play it more cautious and hold their feet to the fire. Personally, I believe she WAS going to run, when Perry first said that he was not going to. Then, before she could jump in (wonder if Karl Rove or somebody changed his mind for him?) he decided to go for it. By that time there were about 10 candidate running. The logistics of that was not good for anybody except the candidates who could raise the most money. We saw what Romney did to EVERY one of the candidates. He had the money to run those ads and those PACs did it for him, basically taking out every other candidate. We grassroots people normally DON’T have the big bucks, unfortunately, to respond to those targeting ads. AND, there were way too many even here on FR who were still mad at her for stepping down from the governorship...so let’s be gracious to her.

She has had more time now to speak out on a lot of issues and REMIND publicly the elitists of the consequences of wrong choices. She’s doing a world of good in that way. They KNOW she has the support of the republican base and can turn the heat on them quickly. She’s a lot stronger now, as I think there are a lot of democrats who are getting sick of their brand and are willing to vote for someone who doesn’t play party politics. She goes after ANY crooks.

Besides, it’s just possible that even if she had won the nomination that the left would still have won because you know they would NEVER let HER beat Obama. They would’ve taken trains into Mexico and herded the whole population into them and across the border to vote, if it would’ve taken that. You wonder where millions of dollars go missing here and there? I’ve a notion that it goes into a kitty used for election fraud...no way to trace it.

I have never backed off my enthusiasm for Palin, and in fact I like her more all the time.

I just wish that she would have been/will in the future be MORE involved.

She has a great deal of credibility with me and I know she has a lot to bring to the debate.

The ONLY objection I have EVER had about her since she was the VP choice for McCain, is that she MUST NEVER again accept a VP place!

SHE must be the Presidential choice on any future Palin WH effort. I'd love to see Palin and West on the next ticket
