Convicted killer Billy Slagle killed himself not knowing about an undisclosed plea deal that could have spared him from execution.

As his attorneys hurriedly prepared a last-minute appeal to file with the Ohio Supreme Court seeking a stay of execution — with the promise it would not be opposed by the state — Slagle took matters into his own hands. He hanged himself in his Death Row cell at the Chillicothe Correctional Institution in the early morning hours of Sunday.

ALL these deals are last minute deals, that's how the defense lawyers work in these cases, they want the high drama of some mad rush to grab the executioners hand just as he is about to execute the guy.

Too Badd, Soo Sad

Slagle, 44, was to be lethally injected at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility near Lucasville for the 1987 murder of 40-year-old Mari Anne Pope, his neighbor in Cleveland. He stabbed Pope 17 times with scissors while she was babysitting two young children.

This is the only part of the story worth considering.

That's the part I was looking for.

Now I'm just too choked up to read any farther.

Yep. "Ain't I a hero?"
Meanwhile, the lawyers are too busy working on their usual slip 'n fall, "jackpot justice" cases to bother with a death row killer client until that last minute when some secretary checks her day planner and buzzes them that Billy Whatshisname is due to be executed tomorrow.

Back in 87’ I was an A1C stationed in the UK. Now I’m a retired SNCO.

During the time span between this joker’s crime and scheduled punishment a typical person can have an entire military career!

Well, this gives me hope.

We need to provide each death row inmate a rope and a place to tie it, 500 sleeping pills, and one of those little black cyanide pills super secret agents carry with them in the action novels. Put this stuff in a little box in the corner of each cell.

Just in case they decide to end their appeals process early.

I love ideal endings.
Good news is always welcome.
