22-year-old Jared Alexander said he was wearing a hoodie at a Boynton Beach mall when a security officer asked him to take the hoodie off.
When he refused, other security officers showed up. Alexander said, Why are you guys harassing me? Im not stealing. Im not going to take my hoodie off.
After a few minutes, he says, he had to go to work and so he left. He was met outside by police. Alexander says they handcuffed him and questioned him.

On second thought I hope hoodie-wearing Trayvon-types boycott the malls...ALL of them.
From Your Lips To God’s Ear!
They will now hold a Trayvon March on the Mall, thousands of hoodies...
Why harass him? He was only doing his best impression of Trayvon. Cut him some slack. /s
Take off the hoodie. Pull up your pants. If the laws against indecent exposure are ever going to be enforced among Afro-Utes, we had better start building tent jails like Sheriff Joe's.
I can’t think of a good reason to wear a hoodie indoors, unless you’re trying to hide your enormous ears or something.
West Palm Beach in the summer is warm and humid, so the guy wore the hoodie not out of necessity, but as some kind of fashion statement, which may have been malevolent.
We teachers in California have had a terrible time with those damned hoodies — kids mostly want to hide earphones for their iPods or hide their identities when they were running in the halls during classes —our halls now have cameras and there are cameras around the outside areas too. If there is a fight at lunch (a not uncommon occurrence), it’s hard to identify the perps if they’re wearing hoodies.
Same thing as in Florida — it’s mostly warm here in So Cal and there’s NO reason to wear a hoodie when it’s 85 degrees out.
A few years ago there was a “new” hoodie that appeared that zipped up all the way in front of the kid’s face — black mesh covered the face— immediate ban at school. Didn’t stop the kids from wearing them or bringing them to school.
Problem is, in many cases of inappropriate dress, including the “little whore look” that is so popular with the girls these days — the parent is more than likely to back up the kid and not the school.
One girl wore an OBSCENE T-shirt to school last semester — parent was called and she said “yeah, isn’t it great! I bought it for her!!”
This attitude with parents is common.
Now I am confused!!!
I thought ‘WE’ were supposed to be boycotting Florida.
Would someone please straighten this out? It is very confusing.
Just because you LIVE there, doesn’t mean you don’t have to boycott....
This kid was looking for this kind of confrontation so he could play the racial profiling card and sue someone. No one in their right mind wears a hooded sweatshirt in 90+ heat.
Hooded sweatshirts have become the fashion standard for B&E “artists”, home invaders, smash & grab thieves, and bank robbers because they are effective in helping to conceal a person’s face and head.
If young, innocent black men don’t want to profiled, don’t dress like someone that fits the profile of a thief. It’s just that simple.
Go trolling for trouble you’ll find it. 4-5 years ago there was a gang shooting in that mall on Christmas Eve day. And there’s been car chase/shootouts along nearby Seacrest ave. Could be no intent but more likely meant to antagonize/make a “statement” then complain about it. Dude should just wait till the whole hoodie thing dies down instead of being a prick.
Or hiding hideous hair or a zillion zits on your neck.
I bet that parent was "mommy dearest." I can't think of too many dads (excluding stepdads here) who would allow their young daughters to wear the "little whore look."
Mom is too stupid to live. If dad did allow it, he needs to take the dad-test.
I’m with you. They should all “boycott” all malls across the nation. That’ll show ‘em! ;o) And that goes for Steven Wonder too!
The guy probably bought the hoodie at the mall.
Look at the videos of the Flash mob thieves, they wear Hoodies too.
"Those People" have every right to wear whatever they want, but the malls
and business' also have the right to boot your asses out for doing so.
It's private property not Gov Housing.
Can't call them Black, Negros, or anything else so it's "Those People" now.
How do "Those People" like their new identity now.
Huge numbers of students now either have a single-parent mom or the sick situation of mom’s live-in boyfriend in the dad role.
Children of intact families are the anomaly now in Southern California.
We’ll find THAT mall — like so many others that have been ruined for the same reason — on dead malls.com.
The Hawthorne Mall in California was built in a black area and then over-run by Trayvon Martin types who shoplifted, terrorized customers, fought each other in the food court and hung out all day — who knew this would be the result? Yeah, Brilliant idea.
I feel sorry for merchants who are trying to make their businesses work— when suddenly a brand new extension of (any given city’s) metro leads from the ghetto straight to the front door of the mall delivering violence, crime and mayhem — and bankruptcy to your business.
I don’t know what the fuss is. I had to take off my shoes, hat and belt to get on a plane. Should I boycott or sue?
Shaking my head with disgust, thinking how in the world her mom let her put of the house, dressed like a tacky version of a "working girl," when she calls out, "Mom.....?"
Then I think, aha, finally my chance to confront the woman who allows such a child to look like a "hooker in training."
Mom, was an older version of her daughter, low-cut, midriff-bearing top, cut off worn jeans so short that part of her derrière hung well below, stilettos, tattoos on both shoulders and calves and to top off that ungodly sight, were two bolts in her nose!
I kid you not, this woman belonged in some cheap side show on the boardwalk somewhere.
If one could ever get beyond her ridiculous clothing, tattoos and piercings, she wasn't truly ugly, just looking like she was waiting in line for the Jerry Springer Show!
I thought to myself, I'll just bet she voted for Obama - twice!
Uniforms is the solution.
Or hiding weapons, which is the whole reason the baggy clothes first came into play.
Wear a hoodie in 90+ degree heat, in Florida and you wonder why? He should be suspect and being that ignorant is even more reason.
Profiling? Good, it’s exactly what we need to do and get rid of the PC BS.
I’ve seen a couple of stores with a sign reading “If you enter wearing a hoody the police will be called.” (Passive construction, but the sentiment is there.) Many robberies are conducted by hoody wearers. That’s just a fact. I’m certain that if in 1890 people went into banks wearing a handkerchief over their faces they’d be shot instantly.
Al Sharpton: Blacks should boycott Disney World!
Disney Executives: Pleaze Brer Sharpton, don’t throw us in dat dere briar patch.
When I go into a bank in my lily-white suburb, there is a sign asking customers to remove baseball caps and sunglasses. Since I just about always wear a baseball cap and shades in the summer, I occasionally find myself temporarily taken aback, but comply. Someone needs to tell them that Whitey Bulger ain’t getting out.
So he had visited the mall just for a few minutes to provoke a confrontation? Or to use the bathroom?
whatever happened to “If you see something say something”
someone wearing heavy gear in the heat of summer used to be merit a DHS warning .. try wearing a hoodie into a bank
LOL! My teen daughter and I have had many discussion about this and she knows her limits- not that she doesn’t challenge them sometimes.
It is hard when everyone around her seems to have no modesty standards and most of the teenage clothes are provocative
Last week we were at an ice cream stand when a car with couple teens dressed like baby whores and their whore-dressed tattoo Momma in shorty short Daisy Dukes pulled up for ice cream - my DD watched the reactions of the men in the parking lot who oogled this clan and got embarrassed for them
after they bought ice cream they pulled over to end of parking lot- and parked in front of dumpster below big sign that said “Trash Only”
daughter and I shared a big laugh over that
It’s funny that the women are wearing as little as possible - and if asked, would just say, “It’s hot out!” or “This is comfortable!”, not “I want everyone to stare at my butt.”
Meanwhile, the guys are dressed in winter clothes, including knit ski caps.
“two bolts in her nose”
I have a friend who sez these types,” “Look like they fell face 1st into a tackle box”
"But officer...."It be cold in dem malls."
If they allow muzzie women to wear burqas, why not blacks wearing hoodies? Burqas are a religious symbol and we all know hoodies are religious symbols to blacks. Certainly that would not be considered racist.
There is a “hood” in hoodie after all.
It’s been the preferred fashion statement for robbers and assassins for centuries...
When did dubious fashion sense become criminal? If that’s the case, Hillary Clinton would be a felon. And Elton John would have been guilloutined decades ago.
I believe if you walked into a bank with a ski mask on, they might ask you to remove it or leave...
TITLE XLVI CRIMES CHAPTER 876
CRIMINAL ANARCHY, TREASON, AND OTHER CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC ORDER
876.12: Wearing mask, hood, or other device on public way.
No person or persons over 16 years of age shall, while wearing any mask, hood, or device whereby any portion of the face is so hidden, concealed, or covered as to conceal the identity of the wearer, enter upon, or be or appear upon any lane, walk, alley, street, road, highway, or other public way in this state.
My wife won’t let me out in public (not that I every really go anywhere anyways) because I have started to openly laugh at those people where they can hear it. I don’t say anything, just laugh and shake my head. I have had a few turn and say something to which I just keep laughing. The rest just shoot me a look and keep on their way talking under their breath.
On a related note, I found it comical the other day in church, we had missed traditional type worship and stayed over for the contemporary rock concert. While I was there I noticed that every woman in the “worship team” was very nicely dressed with modest clothing and jewelery and styled hair, no tats (that I could see). The men in the team on the other hand all looked like they just got there from the Old Navy summer sail, they all had on shorts, flip flops, sleeve tats, calf tats, and grungy hair.
I found that funny in my own way.
The issue at hand was just that he was wearing a hoodie, I think this entire situation is ridiculous. Now, if his actions made the security folks suspicious of him, they have the right to question him on their property or even ask him to leave, but I seriously doubt the establish has a blanket prohibition of ‘hoodies’ in place.
Have the same thing at my local bank. I ignore the hell out of the sign. Everyone knows me anyway, so I'm not sure what the point of it is. Hell, if I didn't have a fedora on, someone would probably wonder what was going on.
That would be a strange sight.
I get the impression, from the music magazines my teenagers get, that this is what most non-classical musicians look like these days. The tattoos and piercings are positively frightful.
So you're an opponent of "no shoes, no shirt, no service" policies as well?
How about coat and tie at restaurants?
Just points for you to ponder, no need to reply.
Darn! A missed Kodak moment. The interwebs are sad.
We need to reclaim the use of hoodies.
Joe, you know I love your graphics and save them all.
I’d love to have that one in a frame!! (but I couldn’t stand to look at Trayvon for more than a second without vomiting!! — so I’ll keep them in the JoeProBono folder on my hard drive, LOL).
I think you should embed your name in there somewhere, though — you should get all “cred” for your creative talent and the time it take you to put those graphics together.
I will keep an eye out to see how many are reposted around the internet.
How about coat and tie at restaurants?
No.. Generally though, in such environments, those policies are generally posted. It's not just a matter of a waiter taking a look at you, and deciding that you have to wear a coat/tie/shoes/whatever. Folks who won't comply with the stated requirements should be asked to leave. If they won't leave, then it's a trespassing issue.
OTOH, I don't think it's the government's problem if you have politically incorrect policies. If a baker doesn't want to make a wedding cake for a couple of fags who want to 'marry', is not something the government should be able to force them to do.
I suspect the majority of the problem in this particular case was the fellow wearing the hoodie. And of course there's also the fact that there is no problem that can't be made worse by adding police to the mix.
Do you think they should arrest tieless foiks at restaurants that require them?
