Freep Poll: Which city will be the next Detroit? Why?
August 7, 2013

Posted on 08/07/2013 8:31:55 AM PDT by NotYourAverageDhimmi

Which city will be the next to suffer the fate of Detroit (bankruptcy, alarming crime rate, exceptionally low property value, etc.)?

What's your reasoning behind the city you picked?

LA.

Because it’s the Western seat of left wing insanity and is larded with minorities and illegals.

The bums about on LA streets doesn’t give this city the glamour it steals. And a lot of these so-called homeless are arsonists to boot.

The answer to the question may be forecast by the amount of liberal corruption within the government and various departments of a particular city, combined with the racial composition of the residents.

Provo, UT, for instance, may be a bit less likely to go under than St Louis.

All of these city collapses are avoidable, but more likely inevitable.

I’m going with Chicago as well.

Overrun with unionistas and corrupt politicians.

ANYPLACE, USA.

I’m in a small MA town with relatively low unemployment, higher incomes, but with ‘Rat finances. That means elected officials with union connections approving the pensions from the beginning of time. We have upwards of $100 Million in unfunded liabilities, which is 3 TIMES the town budget, and certainly WAY bigger than the town/school budget. If it’s here, it’s in potentially anyplace.

Chicago has a wide and varied economy which would preclude this sort of thing.

Baltimore. St. Louis. New Haven.

Chicago is a mess, but it’s still a travel hub and an economic center.

LA is a good choice because the libs have driven away the middle and upper income people leaving the poor and the criminals.

Chicago has a wide and varied economy which would preclude this sort of thing.

Sure if you ignore the growing debt and falling credit rating.

It could be any of a hundred large cities since most are and have been liberal/progressive controlled for many years. Actually, the best way to figure the one that is next is to look at each one and see which have had the liberal/progressive running things for the longest. Do not make the mistake of looking at the party. There are several run by Republican liberal/progressives.

“Do WE get to choose??! Oh, Goody...”

Agree. And the “winning” city must be destroyed.

Let’s start the vote.

I’ll add my input: Washington D.C.

Omaha, NE. The former two mayors have put the city into a losing situation with police and fire pensions. The newly elected mayor is doing her best to bring things back into order, but the fire/police unions are unwilling to budge on making their departments fiscally responsible and meeting budget requirements. It is only a matter of time before the city goes bankrupt.

Do not make the mistake of looking at the party. There are several run by Republican liberal/progressives.

Then there are smaller cities like Ann Arbor and Kalamazoo Michigan which very liberal but doing pretty good as long as the tax dollars keep rolling in to the universities.

There is still a lot of money in Chicago. They can still play games with the books for some time to come. When you see a mass exodus of wealthy people from Chicago, we could put Chicago on the list for the next to fall.

But Chicago still has enough wealthy people to fleece. Chicago is also taking a lot of money from the state. If IL ever gets a republican governor that reduces the corruption, Chicago is in trouble.

But nobody needs to worry about that. All citizens in IL are funding Chicago.
