A little anecdote: when I was first stationed on “the rock”, we would go to the chow hall at Kadena on Saturday mornings. Compared to Marine chow, the chow hall at Kadena was like going to a fancy resturant - eggs & steak to order, it was nice.
After a while though, someone got smart and figured that even though we were all DoD, our Marine chow hall passes could no longer be used at an Air Force facility.
Sigh, it was great while it lasted...
Names out of the past. Man - that was a long time ago.
I remember being a young Lance Corporal and looking at one of our MstrGny Sgts (he’d been in 30+ years) thinking “man - he looks OLD!” .
If I’d stayed in, I’d be at 32 years. Sheesh, I probably look as ancient to today’s young bucks as he did in his day.

The Air Force chow used to be pretty nice.
On The Rock, there was a halfhearted attempt to get the Gaijins to say Kah-den-ah — no long “e”. The campaign has fallen flat. After pronouncing Kadena one way for 30-40 years, it’s hard to change.

We were there for 3 years and it was always pronounced Camp ‘La June’ Civilians and military pronounced it that way.
Not only that, he hasn’t pronounced “Fort Hood” in years.

Kadena is Kadena and White Beach is White Beach.
Hannity played some of this on his radio show today and NO ONE clapped for the president, except for one lone clapper. Finally whoever was in charged had to tell everyone to make some noise. I’m looking forward to hearing more tonight. We were at a retirement ceremony at the Naval War College last year and NO ONE clapped when they mentioned the president’s name. The silence was deafening.
We don’t need no Frenchifying of our Marine Corps!
