Reflections On Windows
August 8, 2013
Much of the scenery I saw during our vacation in Alaska was through the windows of moving vehicles. I was thankful for glass that allowed me to see the beauty while remaining warm and dry. But the windows also presented a challenge. When it rained, water drops on the outside obscured the view. When the temperature changed, condensation caused fog to develop on the inside.
Those challenges help me understand why it is impossible for us to see life the way God intended it. Sin obscures the beauty of life that God wants us to enjoy. Sometimes sin is insideour selfishness creates a fog that makes us see ourselves as more important than we are and causes us to forget about others interests. Sometimes sin is outside. The injustice of others causes our tears to fall like rain, preventing us from seeing the goodness of God. Sin of any kind keeps us from seeing the wonder and glory of life as God designed it.
For now, even though we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror (1 Cor. 13:12 nlt), we see enough to know that God is good (Ps. 34:8). The many wonderful things that God has revealed will help us to forsake sin and work to minimize its consequences in the world.
Lord, improve our vision. Clear the fog that comes from
self-centered thinking. Help us to uphold justice,
to offer comfort to others, and to wipe away the tears
that have been left by the storms of life.
The only way to see life clearly is to focus on Christ.
Read: Psalm 34:1-10

The morning commute went quite smoothly - about 45 minutes. The evening commute was almost disastrous - for the last three evenings a traffic light in a critical intersection has been short-cycling and the consequences were punishing. I managed to avoid major delays through my consummate knowledge of the local byways and brought the return trip home in under an hour.
The humidity is not bad yet but is supposed to crescendo through the remainder of the week. We've had intermittent rain yesterday and today.
All in all, things are going well with us here.

SoldierDad, thanks very much to your son for his service. The wrongheaded policies that prevent his re-enlistment are damaging our National Security. Please tell him to keep his powder dry! He will almost certainly do so without any prompting from me or anyone else. Just let him know, from a 'Nam Vet, that we are with him now and that we will be with him and our Beloved Nation for the long fight!

Thank You, Connie.
I am not superstitious, but THREE really big things happened to me all at once:
First Lillian died (and all that went with that)
Then my car needed $800.00 worth of work or else it wouldn’t go and i wouldn’t be able to work
Then Lynn-Dah got so sick I thought she was going to die too.
I am still a little shell shocked, but not too stunned to notice that Sunday would have been my 41st wedding anniversary if my dear Mike was still alive. Unfortunately, it is also Obumbo’s alleged birthday.
I, however, have an official certificate of Marriage, duly certified and carrying the Great Seal of The Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Long Form, from the State Archives. It only cost me $67.00 to obtain..just asked for it and there it was. I needed both that and my Birth certificate to renew my drivers license last year.
Not only have my Mom’s people been here since the 1840’s, fought in the Civil War, WW1, WW2, and Korea, but my Dad’s People have been here since before the Vikings discovered America.
Nevertheless, there are more illegals driving around Florida than there are citizens. How do they get THEIR licenses renewed?
You can’t make this stuff up.
Sorry for the rant! LOL!

Thank you, Conor. I completely agree with your assessment. I will pass along to him your words. From what he’s told me, he intends to join a National Guard unit, working full time with same pay and benefits he receives now. His goal is to promote up and then try to reenlist in the regular Army. We’ll see how that goes. He and I will stand shoulder to shoulder with you in this long fight.

Indeed they are, Connie! Glen Doherty is in battle dress carrying the piece and Chief Woods is in Service Dress Khakis. God Bless their Valiant Souls. When the Enemy finally got into the Annex, they were enraged to find that some 60 of their number had been dispatched by only two men.
Sounds like an even fight to me!
