The seeds of the IRS targeting of conservative groups were planted by Eric Holder in 2001 when as deputy attorney general under President Bill Clinton he convinced incoming Attorney General John Ashcroft to seize the building of a conservative megachurch, says the churchs retired pastor.
Our church was taken over by the IRS in 2001 based on the recommendations of Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder to incoming Bush Attorney General John Ashcroft, said Greg Dixon, former pastor of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple.
The church was the sacrificial lamb to pave the way for the future targeting of conservative groups. We were among the first victims of the IRSs targeting of conservatives, long before the news broke earlier this year, he said.
Evidence that has arisen in the current IRS scandal shows the agency singled out conservative groups for special scrutiny that included asking for the content of members prayers and demanding they promise not to protest outside Planned Parenthood clinics or to run for office.
While the IRS initially insisted the targeting was limited to a few rogue employees, evidence now shows that orders came from the top to delay the approval of scores of conservative groups through two election cycles, including the 2012 campaign in which Barack Obama was reelected.
As Congress continues to investigate, Holder is resisting calls to appoint a special counsel. Dixon says he is not surprised by Holders refusal and claims that the attorney generals fingerprints on the IRS abuses actually go back to his days as a Clinton appointee.

It started years bfore this with Holder. He was Reno’s #2 on the Waco slaughter.
In the end, the blame belongs to the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC. We’re talking violations of RICO statutes, possible election law violations and violations of Federal regulations on the handling of confidential tax information....
Holder was also the guy who did Reno's dirty business in apprehending Elian Gonzales and handing him over to Fidel Castro.
Ashcroft another loser from the Bush Crime Families history of treason!
This was a church where the nimrod leadership didn’t pay the payroll taxes of it’s employees and claimed paying taxes was a sin. This whole thing went all the way through to Federal Appeals court and they had six months after that to work out a settlement before a judge ordered the property seized.
This would have happened regardless of who was in charge. Dixon is lying (again) about the whole thing.
What? the irs engaging in criminal activity? What a surprise!
Churches should not have to register with the government at all, ever.
The employees can pay their own taxes if they are not withheld, this happens a lot in the manual labor community and nobody gets raided by the jackboots
This was in the courts for years and they didn’t “raid” until the USSC denied them cert and they got a court order on top of that.
Equating temporary manual labor private contractors with permanent church staff is a legal fail.
It was Dixon who escalated and escalated, hoping that publicity and public opinion would get him out of the soup. I’m sure he was fundraising all the way through it.
Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton aren’t the only tares in the wheat field or goats in with the sheep.
WND recycling these fringe snake oil salesmen is a journalistic fail.
Like I said, churches should not be registering with the IRS or anyone else. Period.
Holder was also the guy who did Reno's dirty business in apprehending Elian Gonzales and handing him over to Fidel Castro."
Hard to believe all of that was 20 years ago. We need to get the new genweration up to speed on all of this.
If they don’t have paid employees, they don’t have to. It’s got nothing to do with being a church, it has to do with being employers.
This was a mega church, with a K-12 school, teaching staff, janitorial staff, etc. preaching and teaching NOT to render unto Caesor while raking it in.
Bakker-esque clap trap.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Mt. 7:21
Churches should not have to register with the government at all, ever.

Does that mean you are in favor of the churches paying the same taxes that all others pay? No exemptions.
Cuz, if you can get out of paying taxes just by putting a sign on your lawn, Welcome to the Church of DMZ.
I am in favor of churches not paying anything, they should not ever have to file a piece of paper with the IRS at all.
individuals can pay the taxes they owe, the church shouldn’t pay anything
