Chris Christie Signs 10 Gun Bills Into Law
http://freebeacon.com ^ | August 8, 2013 | CJ Ciaramella

Posted on 08/08/2013 5:22:16 PM PDT by lowbridge

New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie signed 10 pieces of gun legislation into law Thursday.

Christie, widely seen as a probable GOP candidate for president in 2016, signed off on the slate of bills, most of which were non-controversial, while leaving five more contentious bills still awaiting his signature or veto.

One of the new laws will disqualify any person on the federal terrorist watch list from obtaining firearms identification cards or permits to purchase handguns.

“To the extent that this bill will keep guns out of the hands of known terrorists, or those who have taken active steps to support terrorist activities, my signature on this bill represents my commitment to keeping the citizens of New Jersey safe,” Christie said in a signing statement. “Our diligence against terrorism must never fade.”

Civil liberties advocates have criticized the watch list for its secrecy. The list is not public, nor can one petition to have his name removed from it. There were about 420,000 names on the watch list as of 2011. It has swollen to nearly 900,000 as of this year.

Other new laws strengthen penalties for trafficking firearms and exempt firearm licenses from public records requests.

Anything to keep guns out of law abiding citizens. Where’s the law that will convict and imprison street gang members who use stolen and illegal guns to commit crimes????

So if you are one of the 900,000 and growing list of persons on the no fly list, without due process, and live in NJ, you can’t own a gun? I think not. The right to bear arms is an unalienable right, but then I preach to the choir.

Want too know if yo are on the watch list? Try to buy a gun. If they say no, and you have no priors, you are listed!

Only in NJ, though.

I think Christie figures he will by far be the biggest candidate on a 2016 debate stage. He’s looking to dwarf the other contenders.

Yeah, right. Anyone remember the Rudy threads where his team swarmed FR to proclaim him "the front-runner" every third sentence? Round Boy isn't going anywhere.

The list is not public, nor can one petition to have his name removed from it. There were about 420,000 names on the watch list as of 2011. It has swollen to nearly 900,000 as of this year.

Just short of a million "terrorists"? And if your name goes on the list, (1) you won't know it until you try to exercise your Constitutional rights, and (2) you can't do anything about it, ever? Tell me again about the Land Of The Free And The Home Of The Brave.

This is utterly contemptible, palatable within the Northeast media echo chamber but indigestible anywhere sane. Stick a fork in Christie, he's done.

One scenario I can envision is Hillary picking NJFatboy as VP and the ensuing “mediagasm” over bipartisanship.

However I suspect she’ll go with DeVal Patrick because he’s guaranteed to “motivate” all the Obama voters.

How DOES one get a gun in NJ? If you own a store, I guess it is easy. Or if you belong to a gun club, you can get one —— if the gun is locked away at all times, and the ammo no way near the guns. But what other reason can you apply for and get a gun?

You apply for a firearms purchaser identification card.
Get fingerprinted.
Pay fees for the fingerprints and background check which is done through the nj state police.
They also do a mental background.

Once you have that you apply for a handgun permit (which you can do at the same time)

But you can only get 1 permit for a handgun at a time. And every time you do you have to pay fees and go through the same nonsense again.

Oh and I almost forgot you also have to have letters of recommendation from two people (not relatives) every time-no kidding.

But forget about carry open or concealed unless you're connected, because they almost always find a reason to turn you down.

Will he sign them after he's re-elected?

They don't prevent you from having a gun for protection.
And once you have a purchase card you can buy a rifle or shotgun anytime.

Corzine and his minions changed the law to make buying a handgun more difficult.

“But you can only get 1 permit for a handgun at a time.”

You can get as many handgun permits as you want at application time....you can only buy 1 handgun a month......handgun permits expire in 90 days but can be extended 90 more at your request unless these idiots have recently changed it. Depending on time for NICS and availability of what you want you could get at least 5.

So the Feds can deprive people in NJ of their 2Amd rights by placing their names on a list which has no nonarbitrary controls on who may be placed on it. What an opportunity for the Feds. They should push all states to adopt that law. Then they can simply put all those the DOJ has determined to be potential terrorists on that list which would deprive conservatives generally of the RKBA.

"Christie widely seen as a probable GOP candidate for president in 2016".

Unintentional humor alert.

"Christie widely seen as a probable the GOP candidate for president in 2016." Headline fixed.

It's becoming more obvious that he ,(Christie) is the chosen RNC "Gee, I don't know why we lost to the democrats again ", candidate for losing the 2016 election.

Who better to pick, than the person who cost the GOP the 2012 election?
I think McCain should be his running mate. He can reassure us that we have nothing to fear from a Hillary presidency.

The question is, since IMO- the GOP has no intention of ever letting a conservative anywhere near the 2016 ticket- What do we do about it?

Third party?

I don't know.

Hey fat boy! Don't forget that to the current administration, Terrorist == conservative. Plus, there's no transparency on how the list is compiled nor a guaranteed procedure leading to removal if you shouldn't be on it. Nice work, dickhead!
