Obama to Unveil New Plans for Surveillance Transparency
President Could Also Address Terrorism Threat, Russian Relations
By JARED A. FAVOLE And PETER NICHOLAS
WASHINGTONPresident Barack Obama is set to announce new measures Friday to "increase transparency and restore public trust" in government surveillance programs, according to a House aide briefed on the plan.
The president is expected to disclose specifics at a press conference scheduled for 3 p.m. Eastern time.
The press conference, his first in months, comes amid a swirl of pressing issues, including the surveillance programs, new terrorism threats and the deeper chill in Russian relations. Mr. Obama leaves for vacation in Martha's Vineyard later in the day.
The administration has faced steady criticism over U.S. data-surveillance programs following leaks by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden, who was recently granted temporary asylum in Russia.

Friday news dump, then go on vacation. Sweet.
once again....internal polling must REALLY BE SUCKING EGGS on this one
LOL..except for the low-information voters who re-elected this failure, who in the world trusts this government? It can’t do anything right, but it certainly is busy taking away the rights of American citizens, thus crippling the USA.
May I laugh now ?
What he means is that he plans to make your private records more transparent to the spy agencies.
Remember: Transparency means you can’t see it.
DEAR LEADER could deliver a speech on ANYTHING and I wouldn’t be listening because NOTHING that comes out of that man’s mouth is the truth.
Restore public trust...snort
This just means he’s going to impose massive increases in surveillance but will call it transparency. He always does the exact opposite of what he says.
Transparency. Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
This is my expectation.
A very close friend of mine ran a TOR endpoint for years. He provided millions of unique browsers the ability to remain relatively anonymous in their browsing. About a week ago he received a very official-looking letter from DHS ordering him to turn over control to his systems or face litigation under the Patriot Act. He promptly shutdown the TOR endpoint and has since hired a lawyer.
I run my own personal email server to my own personal domain name. I have several layers of encryption between my devices, only use SSL, and have user and device non-repudiation setup for communications. I am seeing greater port sniffing attempts and scans against my network coming from US IPs, and I'm growing concerned that it's only a matter of time before the NSA sends me a letter requesting my private keys. I will not provide them.
This is about our privacy folks. If we acquiesce to government bullying, we are no longer free people. I am doing everything in my power and knowledge to keep my private information and data private. I will not give in to government bullying over my private data.
A TOR endpoint or a service like Lavabit where they are providing a large-scale service to anonymize people, that I can understand legal jurisprudence to request snooping ability, but if I'm spending my own time and money to protect my own interests, they can't legally ask me to turn over jack shit. It would be like asking me to give them a key to my house and a key to my car just to come and go as they please regardless as to when I'm actually home or driving. Not gonna happen.
The man is the biggest liar in US history, and he’s not even the REAL President, who is Valerie Jarrett.
Who might well be some kind of Iranian asset.
Obama is the worst prez in US history.

and tell me just which part of the constitution does surveillance of the citizens of America fall under hmmmm?
bunch of morons can’t hear us say not just NO but HELL NO to this.
