The Labor Department on Friday issued regulatory guidance to affirm that same-sex married couples can take a leave from their jobs to care for an ill spouse, the first of several moves the agency said it would make after the Supreme Court struck down a law denying federal benefits to legally married same-sex couples.
At the same time, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management said it would extend benefits to federal employees in same-sex marriages.
Labor Secretary Tom Perez announced the changes in a memo to the department's staff on Friday, calling the Supreme Court's June decision in United States v. Windsor, which struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, "a historic step toward equality for all American families." The changes represent early victories for gay-rights advocates who have been pressing the Obama administration to issue guidance for employers and employees about the ruling and to launch an effort to eventually write new regulations that would further expand rights for same-sex married couples.
Mr. Perez said the guidance on the Family and Medical Leave Act is "one of many steps" the Labor Department will take over the coming months.....

This is what it’s all about folks-—the payoff.
I sure do miss America, the once-great nation.
Figures. We’ve got queers in the Senate and House, pulling the levers. Tammy ‘rug’ Baldwin and that Stalinist b*tch from Arizona.
Does this mean what I think it do?
Adam or Steve, whichever is the designated wife, will be able to take “maternity leave” whilst searching for a child to adopt?
Will rubber “baby bumps” qualify as legitimate medical expenses so that Adam or Steve can “keep it real”?
Will Tiffany’s offer Sterling silver turkey basters for addition to the Bridal registry?
My bulldog was happy to hear this. I’m thinking of ‘popping the question’ tonight ......
otoh.....these "married" gay people are going to find out about responsibility...about divorce...about sharing your fat pension with your "spouse" including the military guys.....hahaha......
in short, we're not going to see too many gays rushing to "marry"....they want to be called married but the rules might cramp their lifestyles...
granted there are homosexuals who stay with the same partner a long time....but that is the exception not the rule..

Liz Cheney was a supporter of all this as was her man, Romney.
I notice that our libertarian crowd here don’t seem interested anymore, now that they have achieved most of the homosexual agenda.
Same, they did their job. Dumped DOMA on the fiction that ‘marriage is a state issue’! No, no it’s not.
“On To Polygamy!” is their motto.
When my children refused to consider the Armed Forces I was disappointed.
Now I’m glad they didn’t go that route.
When was that and what was their reasoning?
BTW, this isn’t about the armed forces, this article is about federal civilians and society as a whole.
It’s about whether this nation is worth fighting for or not.
I’m beginning to think not.
As a life-long bookkeeper, I will say this again:
Small business owners:
Shut down completely or carve yourself down to only yourself & immediate family members.
You will be forced in the near future to keep hiring people who are never at the job, but will be collecting a paycheck.
You will never be able to lay off a person who does nothing all day & defies you to lay them off. (Think Sweden)
