The great experiment. Time for Cruz, King or Palin in 2016
Hot Air ^ | AUG 10,2013 | AZZ SHAW

So what say we conduct the experiment that could – and I emphasize could here – finally settle the question once and for all. Let’s just nominate somebody who has welded on all three legs of the stool and leaves not a sliver of daylight for the squishiness question.

A nominee who will state without ambiguity that we’re going to bomb the crap out of anyone who is actively working against our interests. One who flatly proclaims that there will be no abortions for anyone and new Supreme Court justices will be inclined to overturn Roe v Wade.

They will solemnly aver that we will slash both taxes and spending in a serious fashion, consequences be damned, and that any money spent on immigration reform will go toward arresting and deporting illegals while massively strengthening the borders.

And if the only path available to deal with argumentative Democrats is to shut the government down, then By God they will personally be the one to turn out the lights as the last one out the door.

But who is left to fill the bill? As I indicated at the top – with apologies to any of your other favorites – we should narrow it down to people who have the name recognition to at least launch a viable campaign and have actively indicated at least some interest in running. Sounds like Ted Cruz or Peter King to me. And, yes, let’s toss in Sarah Palin who is far from past her prime and has never entirely ruled out the possibility, while clearly meeting all of the criteria above.

We tried it one way in 2008 and 2012, and it’s only fair to give the other side a chance to walk the walk, so let’s get everyone from both sides

I love Sarah Palin, but her running is just about the dumbest idea I have seen...

The libtards did a magnificent job of demonizing her, marginalizing her, smearing her character, mocking her, libeling her to ever be a serious candidate again...

John McStain did a great job of defending her /S

If the King be Peter....no way Jose
If he should be Steve...right on, right on, right on.

Sarah...I’m by her, behind her, and for her.

Cruz...Glory glory, be still my heart. We need this man in the worst way.

The list of NOs is much longer than the list of ‘approved’s There are many blank lines to be filled and still looking and searching for those who might be able to do so. Chaffetz?,
Gowdy? Know nothing about them and would need to know more.
Working thru issues with Rand Paul. Can’t be 100 percent certain of him.

Just MHO

You lost me at Peter King. He’s a weathervane. By my observations, he often points in whichever direction the political winds happen to be blowing on any given day. Early on, I was thrilled and encouraged by some stout positions he seemed be occupying; and some short time later I’d hear him pop off about something 180° out of phase from it. After a number of those WTF moments I woke up and smelled the coffee. He’s just another weathervane politician! /JMHO

There’s always been only one party.

The only difference between candidates is who’s doing the bribing.

Even then, the bribes are shared equally between the two sides...anonymously, now that Citizen’s United made it all legal.

The head of the National Association of Lobbyists was asked on C-SPAN “What was the difference between bribery and lobbying?” He smiled that nervous smile of the “trapped,” and answered: “There’s rules for lobbying.”

I laughed out loud.

The success the media and liberals had in demonizing Sarah Palin has probably eliminated her as a viable candidate.

Every time I see that meme repeated by a conservative, it reminds me of how successful the left is at steering our thinking patterns.

After everything the left has thrown at Palin in the last five years, she's barely got a scratch on her, but to hear some conservatives tell it, she's finished. Many of them say the same thing about the country, the Tea Party, and the patriotic right.

Not a word of it is any truer than the myth of man made global warming, but that doesn't seem to matter. Despite the fact that we're still in the majority in this country, we're supposed to all bow our heads in defeat and kiss our country good-bye.

Makes me want to punch something.

King is one of the better New York Republicans, but just about every Republican in New York this side of Carl Paladino is a RINO to some degree or the other.

It’s Hillary versus Jeb Bush... Bet on it.

If that's what the next presidential election comes down to, I'm out of it completely.

The sad thing is, citizen engagement is irrelevant after the primaries.

Article II Section 1 of the Constitution

It was always intended that the 1%’ers control who occupies the White House.

People getting upset over presidential elections prove they don’t know the Constitution from a hole in the ground.

Palin 2016 - I’m getting my bumper sticker next week. It should make some heads explode when driving around Cambridge MA.

I agree with you in the sense that Sarah has shown she is made out of "The Right Stuff". She has shaken off every punch and low blow the left (and the RINOs) have thrown at and become stronger for it.

But there is no denying that the media and leftists have been successful in pretty much destroying her viability as a candidate by creating a perception among the general population that she is a flake and not to be taken seriously. It is based on lies, falsehoods and half truths but it has been effective and has taken root as the perceived truth.

I would wager that other than informed conservatives, most people with an opinion as to who said "I can see Russia From My House" would say it was Sarah, not Tina Fey.

One indicator of the effectiveness of Tina Fey's parody, which was a blatant ridicule of Sarah, is the fact that Tina won an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her impersonation of Sarah on SNL.

The leftist media loved her for it and rewarded her for the damage she did to Sarah's credibility with the general public.

It’s not a case of winning.

It’s a case of being “chosen” by the Big Money.

Those who've bought into the manufactured negative image of Palin, were never on her side to begin with. She never lost them, because she never had them to begin with.

What's more troubling to me, are the otherwise sensible conservatives, who've bought into the secondary leftist meme that, 'she's been ruined by the unfair press, and is therefore unelectable'.

The manufactured image of her, and the 'unelectable' meme, are both false, and have both been advanced by the left (and the GOP-e) to keep her out of the running for the White House.

The day after Mitt Romney lost the election to Obama, a national poll came out which asked, "Now that Mitt Romney has lost the election, who do you feel is the leader of the Republican party?"

Sarah Palin was the top choice by a wide margin.

That poll could not have generated that result if her brand has really been destroyed by the negative mud slinging. No, Palin remains just as strong and just as viable as she ever was.
