Ald. Davis: Blacks use illegal drug trade for economic needs
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ^ | August 9, 2013 | Don Walker

Posted on 08/10/2013 9:43:30 PM PDT by NotYourAverageDhimmi

In a statement expressing his frustration with how growth in the local economy bypasses black males in the city, Ald. Joe Davis said Friday that the illegal drug trade is the "common way" for many African-Americans to provide for their basic financial needs.

Davis, who is African-American, entitled his statement: "Divide and conquer politics stagnates Milwaukee's economy, shuts out black males." {snip}

Davis said the city's rate of economic growth involving the private sector was "pathetic." He added that that poor performance was directly related to the city's crime rate.

"We accept group homes, day cares, gas stations and corner grocery stores as a pro business growth strategy while other local economies are looking at us in the rear view mirror. I shake my head as the City of Kenosha has landed Amazon's distribution center while City of Milwaukee officials are sitting on the sidelines crying, 'What about me?' "

Davis conceded people would be offended by his statement. He continued: "The illegal drug trade is the common way in the City of Milwaukee's African American community of providing the basic financial needs of many residents, and its mere presence is creating instability that is directly related to our violent crime statistics. We fight over minuscule issues that could unite us, but we are stuck in the past of 'Divide and Conquer.' Now we want to spend $500,000 on police overtime, but fight not to invest the same amount in African American men and boys who will be the target of strict law enforcement because of our dismal local economy in their community."

Estimates vary, but academic and labor experts say the unemployment rate in the African-American community is at least 40% or perhaps higher.

I can think of another factor that's directly related to the city's crime rate.

Women’s Liberation was the worst thing to have happened to black American men.

At the very time when the last ugly vestiges of segregation were being cleared away for black men to join the workforce, women shouldered their way in ahead of them.

I bet he and his constituencies voted in mass for oMao at least two times if not more.

Cry me a river. What about demanding all the baby daddies support their children. I bet few if any finished high school and can’t speak, read or write the English language.
How about stop murdering each other. You are not in the jungle once removed from the animals.

I didn’t believe in devolution but blacks seem to be going that way. If it wasn’t for government stealing from the productive and blacks had to pay their own way black would soon find themselves on the endangered species list!

And another thing. Were you born in Africa and the moved and became an American? If not then you are not a hyphen american.

How about trying to be just an American,

For every black that’s making a living selling drugs there’s a black who’s BUYING the drugs.

What does this guy have against Kenosha? Kenoshians need jobs, too.

Yup, some Americans bought some slaves from Africa over two hundred years ago. Everything bad that has happened since, can be traced to that. There may have been slavery for the previous 4000 years, and slavery in some countries even today (Africa and other Islamic countries), and man may have been treating other men badly since the time Cain killed Abel, but anything bad that has happened can be traced to he fact that slavery was legal in the United States until 1865. It is fair to wallow in self-pity and expect that the United States owes you a free ride. So break the law, and deal all the drugs you want - because you are owed.

It’s a tragedy that cotton grows in North America.Would have saved us a lot of trouble if it didn’t.

I don't want to seem like I support segregation, but back during segregation blacks were far more entrepreneurial than they are currently. Out of necessity they built business, schools, even universities, with only trivial amounts of help from whites. When baseball kept them out of the majors, they didn't cry about it, they formed their own leagues with the same rules. People could see they their players were equally skilled. Blacks ran their own hotels and their own restaurants. They were developing a parallel society that rewarded blacks for hard work, taking risks, and developing skills.

And then came the great society, where we will integrate and then people just owe you things. It was a stake in the heart of black entrepreneurism, and they haven't recovered yet. Black neighborhoods in Detroit in the 40s-50s would not be deserts that have no grocery stores, gas stations, etc that describe black neighborhoods today. It would have had black owned stores.

I could be wrong, but I think the first slaves were brought in to tend tobacco crops

Yes, I see it. Hallelujah

This is the legacy of slavery, Jim Crowe, Rosewood, Trayvon Martin lynching and the Tea party.

We white conservatives force these poor black kids into selling drugs in their black neighborhoods then we hand them guns to kill their neighbors..

Oh the shame. The shame,

REv Al Paid for this message.
