AMES, Iowa — Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is the subject of endless 2016 presidential speculation, and if he does decide to run, he’s already learned one important lesson.
“You all had the opportunity earlier this afternoon to get to know my father. And as you saw, my dad is very soft spoken,” Cruz joked during a speech in Iowa this weekend. “I will confess, I am today violating what has been a cardinal rule, which is never, ever, ever follow my father at the podium.”
Cruz and his father, Rafael, a Texas pastor, both addressed a gathering of Christian conservatives in Ames, Iowa on Saturday, and the elder Cruz — speaking without notes — recounted his imprisonment and torture in Cuba during the 1950′s and subsequent immigration to the United States.
“A young charismatic leader rose up, talking about hope and change,” Rafael Cruz said in a veiled reference to President Obama’s 2008 campaign themes. “His name was Fidel Castro.”
For nearly 20 minutes, the pastor regaled the audience with a fiery pro-Christian, anti-Obama speech that drew a boisterous standing ovation from the crowd at an annual summit organized by the Family Leader, an Iowa-based conservative group.
“This administration has both their hands in your pocket,” the 74-year-old Cruz said. “They’re going to take everything you have.”
Near the end of his speech, he declared: “Obamacare is going to destroy the elderly by denying care, by even perhaps denying treatment to people who are in catastrophic circumstances.”

I look for the life expectancy to change downward because of Obamacare. A pain pill won’t extend life. If your 25 this isn’t a big deal, if your 70, it is.

Medicare drove up prices for anyone not receiving Medicare (like younger workers) and Obamacare will drive up prices for anyone not receiving Obamacare (mostly middle class professionals).
There's competition for health care. Those getting government money usually win. Some literally die while paying taxes to extend the lives of others.
It is best to imagine the NHS in the UK, now killing some 30,000 people a year, often though they don’t want to die, and without telling their families, with the preferred method as starvation, since it costs least.
Because that is what Democrats who support Obamacare want here.
Importantly, the UK has some 63.4 million people, the US has 5 times the population. So they *want* 150,000 Americans killed every year.
Added to maybe more than 1 million abortions in the US, it seems that the only people the Democrats don’t want to kill are themselves condemned, savage murderers.
Maybe they feel it hits too close to home.

Story about Cruz’s father’s “arrest and torture” in the 1950s is very dubious. The father was a domestic terrorist in Cuba who possibly supported Castro.

A ridiculous, stupid lie, that is believeable only to someone who knows nothing about Cuban history. The Castro brothers were terrorists from the get-go. Raúl was trained in Prague in the late 1940s. In 1948 Fidel Castro participated in the communist-led Bogata insurrections. In 1953 Fidel and Raul Castro led an armed attack on an army barracks and killed soldiers sleeping in the barracks’ hospital. They were arrested and there was a public trial. Castro went to prison.
No one in Cuba who followed the news could say they were “fooled” or “didn’t know” who and what Castro was.

You are the one being blind. The two are not comparable. The evidence in Castro’s case was armed insurrection, arrest, a notorious trial and a prison sentence. Nobody alive at the time “didn’t know”.

This story is nonsense, riddled with internal contradictions. They tried to pass the father off as a Cuban exile - just as Rubio tried to do with his father - and when they got called on it, backtracked, and make the father a domestic terrorist - “blowing up buildings” - who is jailed - and then given a student visa by the same *evil regime* who “imprisoned and tortured him”. Which begs the question of how he graduated high school with all that blowing up buildings and jail time.
We have to apply the same evaluative criteria to all our candidates that we do to Zero. The Rafael Cruz story makes no sense and is patently false. I personally saw Ted Cruz introduce his father on television as a former political prisoner in Cuba who was tortured - leading the audience to believe that he had been oppressed by and fled Castro. There is more to this story - it is nothing like the truth - I want to know what the truth is.
